Black or grey?

I've been coveting a knit biker jacket for a long time, but I have yet to find one in the right size and price. However, I have found this one, on sale (!), and I think I'm going to go ahead and order it. The only question is, black or grey?

Black: I wear a lot of black, it goes with everything. But on the other hand it is susceptible to fading, lint, etc. and it is probably actually fairly harsh on me.

Grey: I've been wearing a lot more of it recently, and it also goes with everything. It can look too much like a sweatshirt. But fading is less obvious with something grey.

What do you think?

I think of you as liking more "dressed" looks, Mander... so am inclined toward the black...

Mander is the jacket a ponte? In the pictures the grey looks like a nicer jacket. I know they are the same but sometimes the colour can make all the difference. The black one looks a tad 'cheap' in the photo. The grey looks really classy. I also like how the grey one hightlights the front pocket zips along with the main front zipper. Definitely the grey.

Yes, Deborah, it is a ponte knit. I was thinking the same thing with the color, although my usual inclination is toward black.

Mander mine too. I will almost always choose black:) But as you have been adding more grey to your wardrobe and with your colouring, I think the grey will work.

That shade if grey doesn't look like typical sweatshirt grey to me.

I was thinking, if it looked heathered, it might look like a sweatshirt. However I like the look of the dark grey very much. I hope you go for it.

The gray doesn't remind me of sweatshirts at all. I would go with the gray for the reasons you describe, goes with everything and doesn't fade as fast as black.

Grey it is, then! And whaddya know, it was actually slightly cheaper than the black one.

Now to just wait patiently for it to arrive...

I like the black better. It is more traditional for a moto jacket, and I feel like black is dressier. If you love the style, I would add a grey later.

I am speaking with a personal experience bias on this, though. I ordered one in black and grey and returned the grey. I am considering a white one for summer.

I like the grey too. Oddly, I've found grey outerwear more versatile than black sometimes. I think it's because grey can look intentional but black is just basic.

I like both. The gray looks like a nice charcoal. Is one color better with your coloring? Do you have a lot of black and need to break it up? I like the weave and shading of the gray and this comes from a girl who wears a lot of black. What does your gut tell you? I think both would be awesome. Nice jackets!

Gray is great with ink, black, pastels, jewel tones, cognac and almost every neutral. I wear my gray accessories out because of their versatility, I also find that some black fabrics don't play nicely with other black fabrics, making an outfit less stylish. Gray seems more flexible that way. I hope your new jacket works out. Could be a real workhorse.
