Anyone doing any Black Friday clothes shopping? Where are the good sales and best deals?

I will be hiding under a rock, eating leftovers, going bowling or to the art museum. I may click a button Monday morning but not before. You couldn't pay me to shop on a day like that.

Online only, baby. I have a date with my laptop in bed with leftover pie. =P I am hoping those Indigo gold zipper boots go on sale.

One year my friend and her family that I was visiting for thanksgiving dragged me to King of Prussia (enormous mall in PA), which I think scarred me for life.

Also, apparently some stores here (target, I think, among others) are now starting black Friday on Thursday at 8 pm. Ridiculous.

I went to Kohls last year in the middle of the night. I couldn't sleep, and I remembered that they were open from midnight on. What a zoo! People were out with their entire extended families, babies in strollers included. I think I bought a pair of jeans for 50% off, but I'm not sure. The whole frenzied attitude is not good for those who lack impulse control, that's for sure. I'll be staying home this year.

Online only for Christmas gifts. I had a quick errand to run at the mall yesterday and it took half an hour to make it through the parking garage and find a spot. I thought I was going to pull my hair out before I could park. I think black Friday crowds in person would drive me nuts!

My 21 year old and now 17 year old look forward to ii a lot, so I accommodate them. Any time spent with older kids is a treasure!

You could not get me anywhere near a retail establishment on Black Friday! I'll pick a weekday and go hit some small local mom-and-pop establishments for what little Christmas shopping I'll be doing. Hubs and I are taking the boys and my husband's mom and brother on vacation after Christmas for our big family gift.

I used to love to get up early and shop all day on Black Friday but now the stores open too early and the crowds are crazy. I'm sure I will end up at a store at some point during the day but I don't look forward to it like I used to. I will probably put up the Christmas Tree that day.

So funny! I was about to post a thread to ask about this too. I have done BF in years past when I was a B&M shopper only. I also made out quite well buying shoes online from Endless. But this year, I only have wants not needs. I plan to:

Swing by Joann Fabrics for their embroidery floss sale
Buy cardigans online at Ann Taylor if they have 40% off
Stop by the Macy's handbag department in store because they don't put most of them online
Add to the shoe collection if Amazon is running any promotions *crosses fingers*

Other than that, I may do some browsing in store but it will only be for fun and I don't expect to buy anything.

I don't find KoP too bad on a slow day (that is near the area I normally visit in the States), but there is no way I will ever go there or anywhere else on frenzy days. I avoid Boxing Day shopping here in Canada for the same reason. I hate crowds, especially the milling-around-in-all-directions kind. Throw in the sensory overload of any mall at any time and I am exhausted in 15 minutes.

Boxing Day, for my American friends and others who aren't familiar with it, is December 26th. It refers to the old British custom of boxing up their Christmas leftovers and giving them to the poor. That custom has long fallen by the wayside, but the name persists. It used to be a holiday here, but has now become the shopping equivalent of Black Friday, as everybody rushes to buy themselves what they wished they had gotten for Christmas. Absolute pandemonium. No, I have never ever gone, but I've had enough kids working retail to have a pretty good idea of the insanity.

PS - Janet and others, do you know about Small Business Saturday? I do not have an amex card but my fiance's family has a bunch and so we always try to hit up some small businesses the day after Black Friday.

And JR, I like your explanation of Boxing Day, where everybody buys what they wish they had gotten for Christmas, lol. Although giving food to the poor is a much better idea.

I used to go Black Friday shopping every year. The mass of consumer greed right after a day that we are supposed to spend being thankful for what we have really appeals to my sense of humor.

And also the sales are pretty good too.

But i stopped going last year when suddenly 4am sales were no longer good enough and now things start Thanksgiving night. That is not funny to me and i feel bad for all the employees that have to work that day.

I will still be keeping an eye out for deals online though!

I went to my first Black Friday last year with my MIL, and we kept our expectations small and just visited Kohl's in the AM. It was fine. Only mildly crowded, we went around 8 AM. I felt the deals were not that earth-shattering, just ok. It was a fun thing to do together, kind of a "battlefield bonding" experience.

No malls for me this year. I'm going to Knott's Berry Farm on that Friday, so I guess it's Purple Friday for me (boysenberry-colored ha ha).

I will picture all you die-hards in Ugg boots and Hello Kitty pajama bottoms, packing a quilted Burberry credit card holster, with a peppermint mocha in your non-shopping hand. ;~)

Diana, thanks for that Small Business Saturday link! I will be visiting Logan's, a local candy store, on Saturday to watch them in the time-honored tradition of making candy canes. It's entirely possible I will spend $25, she admits sheepishly.

I am skipping Black Friday to spend a quiet day with my DD. I do my shopping online. I would rather pay for shipping than deal with the mall or any other retail establishment this time of year!

Karie, a capsule is just a group of clothing that works together. Some are specific - funeral capsule, say - or it can be quite broad, like casual weekend capsule. I just need shoes for work, where I wear a uniform.
