Black fishnets with this sweater dress ?

Hello ☺️

I have always seen black fishnets as a sensual, feminine and very flattering pattern (if it’s well made obviously)

I got one on sale at a ridiculous price today and I am now wondering how to wear it without it looking too much

I am aware that it can be pretty seductive and provocative, that’s why I tried to pair it with a neutral sweater dress.

I want to be able to wear this at work. What do you think of this outfit ? ☺️ Do you have any ideas ?

Hi there! I love fishnets and when I lived in Italy for the first time 20 years ago I was delighted to find that they were considered appropriate office wear, in black, in other colors, and in my favorite, nude (a super-subtle sexy-librarian choice!). My instinct is that on the one hand, black fishnets are too much for American offices, if that's where you are, but on the other hand, they are subtle enough that I can't even make out that they are fishnets in your photos! Perhaps if you wear them with the rest of your outfit being deliberately not provocative, for lack of a better word, like with your very cute baggy sweater dress, and then what, maybe some cool ankle boots that are either flat or with a chunky heel, rather than something vixen-ish, you could wear them to work? Depends a bit on your industry, too! You know that better than any of us.

I've worn black fishnets to work with the dress pinned below (which I've pinned in both misses and plus sizes, yay Rachel Roy!).

I think there are a few key elements to making fishnets work-appropriate: style of dress, length of hem and footwear. Your sweater dress is definitely on track, but I wonder about hem length and footwear? It looks a bit short for an office, depending on your industry. I wear mine with chelsea boots.

It's a matter of knowing your audience and your workplace. Fishnets wouldn't be acceptable in any office I've worked in, and I currently work in public education and they wouldn't be appropriate there, either. But they do look good with that dress.

FWIW, I wear some variation of fishnets to work when I want to wear a skirt or dress and it is too warm for tights and too cool (for me) to have bare legs. Neither the cut of my clothing nor style of my footwear could remotely be considered sexy as I like and need stompy shoes.

In Finds are some of my fishnet-y hosiery. I think only one pair is a regular fishnet and I wear that pair the least because I find them boring. If it gets cold again, I may layer them over a pair of colored tights to provide some texture and extra warmth.

I actually think very shiny sheers or maybe my last Find (currently on order) may be sexier since seem more touchable.

I think I would look slightly sideways at fishnets worn in my health organisation office with a dress the length of your sweater dress, but as per Lesley, I think boots rather than pumps might dial the effect down. I was at a training meeting for family doctors and physiotherapists the other night, and was musing to myself that one of the attractive young women presenters had on a fairly short dress, bare legs, and high heeled sandals. It was a bit shorter than I thought work appropriate but she did look good! I feel like a bit of an old fuddy-duddy thinking that and would never had said to her. It is a difficult line to draw regarding offices and work appropriateness. They certainly suit you and you have very nice legs!
I think to me, I have had decades of thinking fishnets=sexy so it is difficult to think of them differently?

I think they look OK, but I would probably wear them with knee-high boots to be safe.

I bought the dress at mango (a common shop in Europe)

I am a physiotherapist and I work in an office with a family doctor and a psychologist.

Thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately I don’t own a pair of boots because I have small calves and I can’t find any that suit me ☹️
However I do have black socks that are mid-thigh lenght but I am worried that it will look a bit too much
I’ll post a picture when I am home to give you a better idea

Sneakers and socks would dial it down (ie, not heels), but that’s also not office wear... a black pencil skirt would dial it all back...

I only wear skirts and dresses but I admit these look are appealing too !

Here are some others pictures I took ! I gave another skirt a try
The thing is, it’s a dark blue skirt and although it looks pretty I am not sure it suits the socks

Maybe I should buy grey socks ? I feel like it will look very good with the whites shirt and the blue skirt ?

Photo #2 looks fantastic and matches well, if that’s something you can wear for work, grey socks will also work. You can wear a black belt on the skirt aswell to dress it up a bit.

Years ago when all of YLF was wearing micro-fishnets, I wore mine to my professional job in a school, with a skirt that fell below the knee. I'm sorry to say that even that elicited impertinent remarks from more than one snarky colleague.

You know your work environment. To me the dress looks short for a professional setting, but I'm on the East Coast of the US.

you look lovely in those tights but speaking as a fellow physiotherapist We always wore trousers and trainers with a polo shirt ,lm not sure that I could done my job dressed as you are but you may be specialising in something different to the area that I worked in.

This look would not be at all appropriate in physiotherapy clinics I have experience in , including the one in my place of work . Physios here ( Canada) dress for the athletic - based , hands-on work they do . I’m thinking perhaps you are not based in North America ?
