Black dress challenge. ETA another skirt over dress

Here is the black dress for DH’s birthday. It is half covered by black daisy print skirt. I used a white shirt for a topper . I was not completely happy with this outfit. It was a little fussy around the waist. The earrings are mostly yellow glass. The black dress is mostly a tank top here. What do you think? Does it look natural to you or contrived.

ETA: the Rip skirt over a black dress, Me Too giraffe flats, fetish necklace. Topper, an orange linen duster dress; bag made by my aunt.

It looks very natural and the jacket works well with your hair and the shoes with the bag. Great idea to use the dress as a tank. I am going to do all my photos this week and post them.

I love it! I like to make my items multi-task too. Today I am wearing a short striped tube skirt as a boobtube top, with a leopard print skirt (at home, and when I went out for a short walk I popped on my Levis denim sleeveless vest over it (which I also re-fashioned from a long sleeve jacket as is a bit snug but works great as an open vest.). The tube skirt is mostly worn as a skirt at home or at the beach as it is quite short so when I realised that it also is a cool tube top I was happy.

I think it looks great! I don’t see fussiness around the waist and love the idea of a shirt as jacket.

It looks fine, but I'd just wear a black tank top Just cause you physically can do something, doesn't mean it's comfortable!

Thank you for your helpful comments. Sally, thank you for starting this challenge. I look forward to your photos. I am still playing with summer versions of the black dress. This was for DH’s birthday. Mine is at the end of this week so another slightly more dressy version.
In general the dress as sleeveless top worked .
Star, I like the idea of your skirt as a top. Very clever.

Robin, I use shirts as jackets in summer a lot. They are light weight but can easily be removed if it gets too warm.I see lots of college girls using flannel shirts as jackets in this area. This was move in week so the students are back. The college girl fall uniform seems to be short shorts, boots of some kind, and a flannel shirt as jacket. Boots are mostly tall or cowboy style. So far this year I am seeing more stompy, heavy soled boots, usually black, worn with sun dresses and bare legs.

Thank you for your comment. Angie, I wore the dress as a top ( and half slip) because of Sally’s black dress challenge. I am wearing a different black dress today as a top with the rip skirt. Ordinarily I would wear a black top. It is just another way of styling the dress. Good for travel or a dorm wardrobe.
I got this skirt because the daisy pattern on it made it a perfect skirt to wear to PEO functions (the flower of the organization.)

Love it, Joy!! Is the white shirt a puplin or denim-wow-anyway-it works beautiful like a topper-and love the yellow accents!

Thank you, Murph and Lynn. I’m glad this version can work. Lyn87, the white shirt is 100% cotton poplin and is quite crisp. The brand is MARTIN + OSA and is several years old. It is lighter in weight than denim. I use it like I do a big oversized white linen shirt alternating them. I white denim would also work but would be warmer.

Thank you, Mirjana and slim cat. The horn cuff was to add hint more animal. I am thinking of pattern mixing the tropical pattern of the ripskirt with leopard top or swimsuit. I wonder if that will work or look crazy?

That RIP skirt is pretty amazing - a gorgeous print and I love the shape. It's so fun over the black dress! I can see packing both items for a vacation, maybe along with a white tee, and having several outfits ready to go!

Great idea, Viva. I have been thinking about how I could use the skirt as a swim suit cover-up. I like a tankini style best, a 2 piece but covers up my glucose meter. I am considering a leopard or cheetah print in black and brown with some cream or white. If it had a rash guard for the swimsuit that would also go with the skirt , so much the better.. am I asking for too much? Would a plain swimsuit in a color in the skirt be best? What do you think?
