Bikini, Tankini, One Piece

My opinion on bikinis is that it might look nicer on someone once they grew boobs and could fill the bikini top cups.

My opinion on tankinis is that it is my favourite and great for swimming, & appropriate.

My opinion on one piece swimsuits is "uh, no." I don't like them because you have to put on the whole thing. You take off the whole suit to use the bathroom.

I'm more fond of bikinis and tankini's myself. Too much hassle taking off a whole swimsuit and ever since a door lock failure in some beach based toilets, I'm definitely sticking to that. Would hate to be caught naked!

At this stage in my life I look much better in a one piece. I wore bikinis when I was much younger and have never been fond of the tankini.

A tankini works better for my short-torso self. The rarest of rare birds is an adjustable strap, bra-sized tankini with a bottom that doesn't create the dreaded muffin effect.

I prefer a bikini - a tankini isn't flattering for me and I don't like fabric on my tummy in the heat/sun.

I love tankini's... overage of a one piece (which I've preferred my whole life) and the "benefits" of the two piece.

I'm waiting for Ledonna to rule on this one, and then I'll do that.

If a one-piece isn't too tight around the legs, in some cases it's possible to handle minor toilet needs without removing the entire suit. Not ideal, but if Diane's scenario is the alternative, I'll take innovation over full disrobing.

Like Kiki, I'm short-torsoed, but unlike Kiki, I think that's why tankinis look awful on me -- the tops tend to be too long and they sort of bunch up around my middle.

I like bikinis for tropical vacations because it's easier to fit top and bottom with two different pieces, and every beach vacation I've been on in recent years EVERYONE wears bikinis regardless of age or size.

For swimming and hanging out at the pool at home, I prefer one-pieces. I have dedicated suits for lap swimming that are much more function than fashion, and then some nicer ones for social swimming.

Janet, I thought I was the only one who had that issue with tankikis! Or the opposite problem, that they just swallow my midsection and all emphasis goes to hips and thighs. Either way, they look TERRIBLE. Bikini all the way for me.

I am with Janet: bikini for tropical beach vacation (everyone is in bikinis anyway, and when will I see any of these people ever again???); one-piece at home (and dread the trip to the bathroom). I just hate tankinis on me, must be the short-torso thing.

I'm another short torso bikini fan. Tankinis always roll up on me because I'm also pear shaped, thus revealing a lovely stripe of bare spare tire. Although lately I've been seeing peplum tankinis, which are kind of tempting.

Tankinis do not work for me at all. The bottoms almost invariably create either muffin top, or at least a line across the middle. The tops don't stay down, and come up when jumping into the water or being active. A one piece does far more for keeping a bump-free middle on me, and is more practical for actual swimming or water sports.

Tankinis work best for me. They are comfy and practical. One piece suits generally don't have the right length in the torso and are not practical for me.

Athleta now has swim tops cut like sports bras, so I do that with swim shorts. Tomboykini?

My short waisted self has always looked better in a one piece, altho my family has been known to shame me into a bikini - so conventionally full of scoffing at 'American Puritanism.' I don't look bad, just not as good and I'm vain.

But I wear tankinis hiking/camping. Doubles as a tank top.

I spent my childhood to my early 30's in one piece long torso Speedo suits. I say yuck! They're good if you're a lifeguard, lap swimmer, swim instructor or racing and I did all three, but otherwise pass. I vote for a bikini for fit any day and I am one with a small chest thank you! Oh, and I'm over 50 also! I only have bikini's now. I say go for it ladies don't be shy. Wear them and proud of your bodies. As Angie said take a stand with your summer body.....!

Swimsuits have become the bane of my existence. I have one breast that is nearly 2 cup sizes smaller than the other - so that makes swimsuit shopping fun. I am finding that 2 pieces bikinis are better fit -especially those with straps that go over the shoulder.

Una - I've been eyeing the suits from Athleta. How would you rate their support factor?

Tankini is a fave with me...I have a very highwaisted bottom from Land's End, which keeps my muffintop securely under control!

"Aha moment why I've never liked tankinis" - another short waisted one here. I like having less fabric on when I'm wet so bikinis are preferred for comfort although I'm not overly excited about them look - wise. But like many have said, people of all ages and sizes wear them, especially on vacation.

The bra sized twisted ones are okay but not all that flattering on me. This one isn't either but is like a medium support sports bra. I wouldn't run a marathon in it, but I can jog and bodysurf without fear of a wardrobe malfunction. Unlike most swimwear I stayed TTS on it (bra size).

I like a one-piece because I'm pretty active in the water (bikini = topless mishap waiting to happen on a boogie/surf board). Although the type alaskagirl posted might work...
Also, what is this "take it all off to go the bathroom"? I just move the crotch aside! It isn't hard or weird at all IMO. Although (ahem) this is just for a quick bathroom break of course, which is the only kind I have at the beach.

I do swim shorts and a short sleeve rashie with an aquatic sports bra under. I think it's practical for the surf and it saves a lot of sunscreen.

I'm suuuuuper pumped about the high waisted bikini trend going on now. As an apple I've not been comfortable in a bikini since I was a kid. I bought a few high waisted bikini bottoms this year and I look forward to not doing bathroom gymnastics!

I "grew boobs" and bikinis are THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE THING EVER INVENTED BY MAN. I have tried every one possibly imaginable, but I'm an E cup so pretty much non fit, and those that do are just not good for sitting up in let alone walking or swimming.

Tankinis are awesome but so many were printed like either grandma or a toddler designed them. I wish I could find a nice one that fit but so far, no luck.

I wear one-pieces thanks to my old squad swimming days, they fit and have yet to wear out, plus comfort so, why not. Mine has an amazing built-in bra, like, I can run in this thing without feeling like my front is bashing into my chin and my ribcage.

Basically you hook the crutch out of the way, if you're peeing. As an ex-swimmer it's pretty easy, idk why but everyone assumes you get pee on your hand uuuh no.
