BF jackets on those with hips?

I have on next year's list a light blazer or tux jacket. I am looking for a style similar to these. A change from the cropped look I have plenty of. But, I'm wondering how this might look on my body shape? I have a figure 8, high hip and it looks like the buttons would close right across my widest part. The cropped jackets tend to button at my narrowest part and define my waist. Anyone with similar body style have any jackets like this? How do you pull them off without looking like a big block? Thanks!

It's really challenging for me to find a jacket like this that fits, much less flatters me. I realized this past year why my closet is filled with shorter jackets. But my hip issues are more pronounced than yours, since I have a wide high AND low hip, and crooked ones to boot (yes, I'm a mess! :-D)

I have one jacket like this that really works -- the Elizabeth and James burgundy blazer. I think the key is 1) that is is gently fitted so it doesn't make me look so blocky, 2) it has a low stance which helps keep the strong vertical effect, and 3) I wear it open, even though it does fit when buttoned. I think a nice drapey fabric can help the look too, so it doesn't look stiff and boxy. I also keep the whole look low-contrast because I don't love a strong horizontal point of contrast anywhere near my hip or thigh.

Thanks Janet, those are about the same issues I'm concerned with. You have height on your side and long legs. In my mind I would look like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Karen-.....2a34f9e6ca but the reality may look a whole lot more like a stumpy rectangle LOL.
Perhaps the fabric is key for me. Nothing stiff, like you said.

Drats! Black, not white. I am heading to the fancy mall today so I can pop into BCBG in person and peek around

I'm keeping an eye on this thread for suggestions. I love the look but I have never, ever found one that works for me. For me, it's not the hips so much as my short waist that is the problem. I have a high, wide hip AND a short waist, so the button is always hitting at my widest point AND the jacket is just too long.

Actually, the BR one-button jacket (the standard suit jacket) that I bought as part of my suit kind of looks boyfriendy on me when worn with jeans. So you might want to look at regular suit jackets instead of actual boyfriend jackets. On a short waist, they might be plenty long.

Me too Diana - exactly. Short waist, high hip, not very tall. It's no wonder I wear almost exclusively shorter jackets (heck, juniors and petites jackets fit me best honestly). I'll check out some 'regular' jackets as you suggested. Thx!

I have the high hip, too. And a swayback - which I like because unlike the front view high hip deal, I always have a defined waist from the back. Unfortunately, the hip boyfriend jacket styles obscure this whole back area. And putting in waist darts on a boyfriend jacket seems just wrong. What I do is I manage to find them so that they fit snugly at the lower button - providing structure -
and then the jacket is thin, loose, or fluid enough that it surrenders the waist but suggests it. Besides, how many people do you see snaps of who are wearing buttoned boyfriend jackets or cardigans?

Vildy, makes sense. Deb, I see that your jackets button closer to your waist. I think my issue might be as much my short waist as it is high hip, as Diana mentioned. The buttons hitting on my wide spot.
Perhaps I should look in the more Jr's fitting places like Express or Zara for starters. This notion of being in actual B & M stores is a bit overwhelming when I have one item in mind and a big mall to choose from! I like to narrow some searching down now, before we head out

Oh, the short waist is definitely part of the issue too. I didn't even mention that, but it's a big factor for me as well. It's almost as though I could wear a petite cut in jackets, but only if the sleeve length were kept long!

well, here's a heresy The concept is you borrowed it from your boyfriend.
What's to stop you from drawing it together right under the bosom, a little high waisted the way Armani cuts his jackets, with a pin. A kind of offhand luxe shtick. I'm thinking a nice pin is the stickpin kind that has a nub on the end to insert the sharp edge into. I do this kind of thing and it works really well as the bottom of the jacket then skims out and it's slenderizing, to use an old word.

I really struggle with this cut, too. I love it in theory, but in reality, I look awful in it. Shorter legs make the effect even worse.
