BF Blazer - Styling question

Soooo...my Boden BF Blazer came...I modeled it for my husband and his first question was..."why do you have the sleeves rolled up?" "Ummm, because that's the STYLE"...so I rolled them down, to his approval.

Question...I actually love seeing the cuff buttons on this jacket, styled the way it is in the photo: http://www.bodenusa.com/en-us/.....vGroupID=2

Is that just hopelessly out of style? If I choose to style it that way, I wonder if I need to size down for a closer, more traditional blazer fit? Sorry for no pix today - the humidity is out of control and I had no energy after my deflating spousal catwalk. lol (He did like the jacket and thought it fit well, he's quite sweet, but for some reason does not seem very hip to YLF style musings!)

MPJ, not to worry - my husband thinks wearing a belt outside of belt loops (over a blouse, sweater, dress, jacket, etc, for waist emphasis rather than to hold up ones pants) is insane. Men don't really get some things, I think...

The blazer looks gorgeous and Fall...since it's fitted I think it's more like a normal blazer and doesn't have to have to cuffs rolled to look hip! On the other hand, if you're going for a more trendy look, roll the cuffs up and let him get used to it!

with regard to sleeve cuffing...i'm going to stick my neck out and say it's not my thing. it usually is too casual a look than one i'm trying to achieve.

i will scrunch the sleeves, typically for function not fashion.

Great blazer, MPJ! Seems to me it would look ok with sleeves rolled up or left down. I have blazer envy.

Lol, Jenava, that sounds exactly like something my bf would say.

I don't know if this would help re: your husband, but mine is very practical, and so he is puzzled when a fashion seems impractical, or involves changing something for no apparent "purpose" other than aesthetics. He seems to adapt to a new style better if I can couch it in purposeful terms. For instance, with rolled sleeves, I can explain them to him as a way to change the temperature and/or season of an item, and I can explain them as a way to avoid dragging my cuffs through various things throughout the day.

My hubby doesn't understand why I am no longer wearing polo shirts like him. And don't even get me started on trying to explain to him that the leggings I tried on earlier are NOT going to be worn with a short top. He is afraid I am going to walk around like a hoochie. I don't think this jacket is dated, it's a classic look to me though.

mpj, That is a georgous blazer, no hard fast rules about scrunching the sleeves, some look best that way others not:) No right or wrong ...whatever you like best:)

In the same breath, I have to say that this jacket is beautifully made, and I was almost in pain rolling the sleeves and then scrunching that beautiful material...then again I wince shoving up my recently-purchased-still-has-tags-on-basic-layering-tee from TJ Maxx! I think I am going to try it on before bed to make sure I didn't stretch the sleeves out. I am mental!

Jeneva - totally laughing with you about the "insane" belting...hee...my husband would feel the same way, I think.

My hubby hates flats.. I bought ones and had to gave it to my daughter because he kept saying "awful shoes"..

But I think this kind of jacket (this fabric) is even better with the sleeves rolled down!
You can wear it with a denin shirt.. just like in the photo! Lovely!

The jacket looks wonderful the way it is. Wear it the way that makes you feel happiest, not hippest. I can't roll up jacket sleeves without feeling like I'm trying too hard.

Oh, excellent.

BTW, realized I didn't say which fabric I got -- it's the navy pinstripe. Hope that doesn't change anyone's mind. If it wins general approval, I may duplicate in the gray herringbone. I still may order the olive green 'riding' jacket from Boden as well...it's the year of the jacket for me!
