Best time to look for down/warm coats...?

My wardrobe is in fantastic shape especially after NAS, I don't "need" much in the way of wardrobe refresh except a few more work dresses or tunics. I was able to snag the Pendleton Darby coat during the sale and I have a long maxi puffer for the worst of winter, but I think I would do well to look for a mid length (mid thigh to above knee) warm coat/puffer/faux fur lined something.... I always miss the best window of opportunity. There is nothing now available, in general, except Canada Goose/Montcler which is above my hoped price range and a bit too utilitarian in vibe plus most have real fur, and I prefer not to buy or wear real fur. Does anyone know exactly when coats will appear? Should I continue to scan through august, can I wait till September? I don't want to miss out. Also suggestions on brands for nice coats, super warm but more "elegant" (so appropriate in light of todays blog post!!) would be sincerely appreciated!!

I can't give a definitive answer, but a few years back I snagged a nice puffer (which is still going strong) at 40% off during pre-Christmas sales in early December. At that time it seemed like there was a good selection.

Becky - that's also a very good idea. I was looking for a left over from last year, I liked the soia & kyo but I can't find a size or color that works. December may not be too cold, so the thanksgiving and preholiday sales would definitely be a thought if I can't find something earlier or what I want is too pricey!

I found good ones last year as late as December — I ended up buying my long black Michael Kors puffer shortly before we left for our European Christmas vacation last year, and I tried quite a few when shopping for that.

I'm looking for the Patagonia Tres to be re-released this year. It's a three in one (tres)- down liner and waterproof shell. No extra embellishments- utilitarian for certain but elegant in its simplicity and most importantly perfect for PNW winters! It should allow me to clean out a few extra coats. I called the local Patagonia and was told mid-August for coats to start coming in so you are right on your timing.

Eddie Bauer had down jackets and coats on sale right before Christmas last year. I just checked, and they are having a sale right now, and it includes down outerwear.

Muffin - thanks for the heads up on timing and the coat suggestion. I find those 3 in 1 coats very practical. I agree completely it's very streamlined and elegant. Very handsome. I will keep an eye out. They are all so expensive, but then coats are an investment....sigh...

Jaileen - thank you I will check them out asap. Always nice to get a bargain, but hopefully if I start early something really nice will turn up.

Angie - thank you. I think I start looking to early, get frustrated and then when I wake up the peak of selection is over. So I will actually put it on my planner to make sure I am scanning the offerings in September. Depending on how pricey, I will stalk, but hopefully something semi reasonable or will a sale will turn up!! Thanks again!
