Here is is part 2 to yesterday’s thread.

We had a great evening, and it ended in the BEST way because Spotlight won best picture!!! SO HAPPY ABOUT THAT.

There were a few surprises:

Joe Biden! Amazing to see him present Lady Gaga.
Mark Rylance won Best Supporting Actor, and I was SO sure that one of the other nominees would win.
Lady Gaga’s INCREDIBLE performable. Meredith and I wept.
Mad Max came home with 6 Oscars. WOW.
Sad that Star Wars did not come home with an award.

Chris Rock was VERY edgy and absolutely brilliant. He addressed the big white elephant in the room and made it the spotlight of his hosting performance. That took guts, and his performance was flawless. I liked the bit where he interviewed movie goers outside the cinema in Compton best, and the girls that came out with their girl scout cookies was adorable.

Favourite Dressed Ladies:

Olivia Munn: LOVE the colour and architectural half shoulder.
Saoirse Ronan: Loved the alluring ‘70s vibe. She wore that revealing dress SO confidently. INCREDIBLE.
Cate Blanchett: Over The Top Floral Fabness. Only Cate could pull that off with grace, charm and verve. The colour was sensational against her porcelain skin.
Lady Gaga: Floating White Impractical Fabness.
Daisy Ridley: Spunky and delightful.
Alicia Vikander: The prettiest princess.
Naomi Watts: Classic, gorgeous and always perfect.

Favourite Dressed Gents:

Jacob Tremblay: his 9 year old self was in an Armani suit with Star Wars cuff links and Darth Vader socks. Killer Sublime. Does not get better than that!
Chris Rock: Magical in a white tux.
Jo Biden: Impeccably smashing and Old Hollywood.
Leonardo Di Caprio: Handsome and immaculate.
Bryan Cranstan and Eddie Redmayne: Loved their high shine suits. Very dapper.

Best Presenters: CP30, R2D2 and BB8.

Best Acceptance Speech: Leonado Di Caprio hands down. No contest.

I was nodding my head to most of what you have written, Angie. I have also wept at Lady Gaga's performance.
Cate Blanchett was by far my favorite when it comes to gowns. I love that color so much and hope to find something more practical in it - perhaps a pretty blouse.
I also really liked the extreme simplicity of Sophie Turner's dress, she looked so pretty in it.

I did not watch the show (I never do, as I'm not a movie person and haven't seen most of the nominated films) but I always enjoy seeing the fashion. My favorites from last night were Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts, and Rooney Mara. Jacob Tremblay is such a cutie!

I did not watch the Oscars themselves. My sister's co-director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy won best short doc for "A Girl In The River" about honor killings in Pakistan. Not to dis Leo (whom I love) but the fact of her speech and her film are amazing and profound - she is changing the world for women. And her team's outfits were gorgeous too.

I have to say that I never watch the Oscars, I'm not very well up on actors and actress names either. I enjoyed watching the NYT slideshow though. Lots of fabulous dresses!

Cate Blanchette is physically imposing (she scares me) but that dress was beautiful. The colour, the cut, everything - perfect. I really like Olivia Munn as an actor and for what she wears and how she looks - and that orange dress was STUNNING on her. And yes to Alicia VIkander - another incredibly creative look that worked. Chris Rock's tux was the best of the men , bar none. Joe Biden looked good and spoke well, but as a Canadian, he means little to me (I do know who he is) . And no comment re: Leo diC - ha.

I too loved Chris Rock, and his tux. He's so awesome. I love everything about him. He can pretty much do no wrong in my book.
I thought Charlize Theron and Olivia Wilde also looked amazing.

Yes, Tanya. Sophie's dress was lovely in its simplicity, and I LOVE that shade of aqua on Cate's dress.

Diana, Naomi Watts was gorgeous as ever. I am putting her on my list. Thanks for the reminder.

Oh my goodness, Una. YES! Sharmeen's short movie changed the law in Pakistan. VERY powerful and moving. WOW.

Lisa, Cate scares you? Etheral - YES. I think she walks on water - like Christian Bale.

Angie, yes- truly making a difference. Leo's speech really hit home too . Here in AK we have had nothing but rain all winter, and I have worn gloves maybe twice. It was 50 degrees yesterday! Something is really wrong when it's not cold in Alaska in winter.

Well, I wanted to watch the show, but a power outage for the first two hours prevented that. I did watch Chris Rock's monologue on youtube. I also liked the girl scout cookie money raising. My favorite dress so far was Saoirse Ronan's. It was a great color on her. She looked familiar to me - she was the pastry chef in the Grand Budapest Hotel. Cate Blanchett always looks lovely, but I didn't care for the 3D effect of her dress.

Una, the documentary winner has made more of an impact than all the others combined. Good for her!

I loved the choice of a white jacket for Chris Rock. And sparkly suit guy... And I think a little bit of justice was served for Leo. He's good and his baby face has gotten in the way for a long time...

Charlotte Rampling and Olivia Munn were my faves.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Oscars and never miss it!

My favorite dress hands down was Cate Blanchett. I swear that gorgeous creature could make a potato sack look amazing. The dress made me think of a wood nymph... My second favorite was Saoirse Ronan - that emerald green was magic on her and she looked so at ease in the dress.

For the gents, my favorite was Jared Leto. I adored the red piping on his suit and the flower on his collar rather than a tie. But if wanting traditional, old Hollywood style, Leonardo DiCaprio was your man.

Wasn't Jacob Tremblay adorable when the Star Wars characters came out on stage? I loved that camera shot when he stood up and leaned over so he could see them.

Cate Blanchett looked stunning....what a gorgeous dress on a truly lovely lady. WOW. My other favorites were Saoirse Ronan and Rooney Mara's. Totally different looks yet equally dramatic.

Chris Rock looked terrific in the white jacket. I enjoyed his monologue and thought he handled the diversity issue expertly. But I was disappointed that he carried the topic throughout the show. He was fair and funny and balanced but not ever moving on detracted from the show in my opinion.

Cate's dress took my breath away. Again, Naomi Watts killed it. And the best part of all? Angie chose Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers' date as BEST DRESSED. lol .... Of course Olivia Munn stands tall on her own merits without Aaron. But still: Go Pack.

Just watched Oscar reprise on TNT. I really really liked:

- Rachel McAdamns, Charlize Theron, Julianne Moore and Sophia Vergara looks. They were all stunning and theirs looks were incredible well chosen for their natural figures and styles. Distinctive mentions to Olivia Munn and Saoirse Ronan dresses. Olivia's had a mix of simple lines, elegance, harmony and a sutil oriental hint that totally got me and Saoirse's dress texture was amazing and they did really good use of it.

- Di Caprio's acceptance speech and the way Chris Rock and Whoopi Goldberg had deal with the prejudice underlying theme in this Oscar ceremony. In my opinion they made fun of both prejudice and fake anti-prejudice attitudes without demeaning the real problem in a quite brilliant way.

- And last, the most shining star of this night for me was Lady Gaga. I loved her dress-pants and her look would be one of my favorites anyway, but I had my eyes full of tears when she finished her performance. I'm not exactly what people would call emotive, but sexual violence is something that knocks my emotional defenses completely down. In that moment she and all those victims who performed with her, in their simple "real" clothes, outshone everything else in my eyes.

Olivia Munn and Daisy Ridley were my faves, although I must admit no patience for awards shows. I catch up on all the best bits the day after! I watched a special on the Manners of Downtown Abbey, which aired on PBS last night. It had lots of great fashiony details. I highly recommend it!

I did not watch the ceremony although have seen snippets (Leo's speech, some of Chris Rock)...so I am relying on online pictures for the most part.

I loved these looks:
- Charlotte Rampling - so elegant and classy
- Cate Blanchett - stunning in seafoam
- Daisy Ridley - modern sparkle
- Brie Larson - I thought the dress had lovely shape and movement
- Saoirse Ronan - very alluring

The Manners special was very very cool. Had some very interesting things to say about the clothing and what it told you about the times. Prompted my mum and me to a discussion of history that roamed from German cutlery to Sir Francis Drake to the differences between the geopolitical organization of the western and eastern US

I loved it all! I thought Chris Rock was wonderful - I felt nervous, but felt like he handled the "elephant in the room" as you say with a strong dose of genuine sincerity along with the humor, which is what made it for me.

Oh goodness, the dresses were to die for. I'm not sure I even saw one I did not like. It was a lovely extravaganza of color, texture, and style. These stood out for me:
Priyanka Chapra - I'm not sure it was the dress, but she is just so gorgeous, I think I would be speechless if I saw her IRL.
Chrissy Teigen - She was flawless and elegant with her baby bump in that beautiful lace dress. Wow!
Olivia Wilde - I didn't mind that she showed so much skin. I felt like it would have been too much on anyone else, but in white and with her unique exotic poise, it just worked.
Olivia Munn - Of course. I mean, seriously?! She is probably the universal winner.
Cate Blanchett - That was absolutely, completely HER. It was not the dress so much that I loved, but just that the dress became part of her and she was this lovely sculptural piece of art.
Kate Winslet - I can't tell you what she wore or how her hair was - I just felt like every time the camera found her, she was a picture of grace and delight for everyone's big moment. She could have been in a brown paper sack for all I knew or cared. She is Kate and I love her for it.

Moments of the night:
Best speech: Mark Rylance. I felt like he was just gracious, humble and sincere. I also loved his performance in the movie. He was subtly brilliant. (But I haven't seen all of the other movies to compare.)
Most touching moment: Lady Gaga's performance. I was chocked up - it was just so moving...
Most well deserved award: Charmeen Obaid-Chinoy for her documentary. That kind of film is life changing.
Just because: Leo. I love Leo. And Jacob Tremblay was adorable. That kid will be around for a long time. He seems like another Dakota Fanning.

And I totally thought of you the instant Spotlight won!!

Priyanka Chopra is a Bollywood star already and yes, gorgeous.

Sharmeen has several films worth seeing... the one she directed with my sister, of course , about the female UN peacekeepers, and also her first short doc which won an Oscar as well, Saving Face, about the doctor who does facial reconstruction for girls and women who are victims of acid attacks. Talk about making a difference through film - she is amazing.

I am so very late to the game, and am really bummed I didn't see the show - it sounds like it was quite a bit more exciting (dramatic) than in the last couple years. But here in Germany the Oscar parties started at 11 PM - on a Sunday - just couldn't do it...

My favorites: Charlotte Rampling (!!), Olivia Munn (!), Charlize Theron, Julianne Moore, Pharell's wife, and Jared Leto. I wanted to love Cate Blanchett but there was something that didn't quite worked for me and I think it has something to do with age.

I am still trying to recover from Heidi Klum's look (who I often quite enjoy on the red carpet) - haven't managed to "un-see" the lilac poof...

I didn't get to watch much of it, but my favorite fashions were on Olivia Munn, Naomi Watts and Robin Roberts - up close so many beautifyl colors and of course sparkle for me!
