I'm 48 and have quite dry skin, so haven't been able to use mineral foundation pretty much ...EVER! At the moment I am using Lancome Renergie moisturizer, followed by MAC primer, followed by MAC liquid foundation, then I apply some MAC powder -- but very sparingly and with an exceedingly light touch -- and staying well away from the fine wrinkles around my eyes. It does give an extra layer of polish, I think. But I can't apply too much.
That's for the winter. For summer, I use the Renergie then tinted foundation, and that's it.
In the past I have used a variety of drugstore brand foundations, they are just as good, I like the ones that are formulated to be "age defying." But really, the most critical item is the Lancome moisturizer. Well moisturized, the fine lines just aren't as noticeable, and of course the sunscreen prevents further aging. And this product also helps lighten up any age spots, etc. It's actually designed for women in their 50s+ -- but I've been using it now since my late 30s. It's quite pricey but worth every last penny. Can't live without it!
