Most of my skirts are just above my knee, pencil style. Dresses are mostly either just above or just below my knee - several variations of shirt dresses and mock-wrap dresses mostly. I think the boots would look better if they were a little bit slimmer. I have a pair which are about a 1/2 inch slimmer, and I already question whether they are too wide with skirts. I'm not sure if these are over-all slouchy enough to get away with being so loose.
I'm actually feeling a bit frustrated by them today - spoke to 3 different bootmakers whose quotes ranged from $30 - $90+ for alterations, which brings the cost of the boots to anywhere from $210 - ??? I also spoke to someone who custom makes boots and he hated the idea of rubber soles, as you can't replace them - once they wear through, the life off the boots is over. I wanted these soles for comfort, but I also want them to last!
Given that I can easily purchase 3 "other" pairs of shoes for the cost of this single pair of (altered) boots, I'm wondering if I should just return these, and stick to ankle boots (which tend to fit ok "off the rack") and/or keep looking! This would be at least my 3rd winter of trying to find the "perfect" boots, so it gets frustrating at times!!
I might head into the city on the weekend and have another look at alternatives before making a final decision!
