Well, I'm sure that I have had many great Christmases ove the past 50++ years, but invariably it has been about other folks, and me being the holiday fairy that makes things happen! This year my plans got hijacked by 'work' and I just didn't have the time or energy. I managed some greenery, some baking, and provisioning around the holiday meals. I didn't manage much by way of gifts (even though we are minimalist gift givers) and we didn't even have a tree.
You know what happened? The menfolk in my household stepped into the breach! DH, not known for his gift shopping acumen, came through 100% with thoughtful gifts for the boys, and for me. What DH couldn't do, DSs 1 and 2 delivered.
I got to sleep in this morning, awoke to cinnamon buns and coffee, and holiday music. Gifts were modest, but spot on! I love every one 100%! Beautiful woolen socks for my cold feet, a book on women pioneers in gardening and their gardens (gorgeous!), a new (women's specific) bicycle seat ( I damaged mine in a fall this summer), and a few other esoteric items that reveal that the gift givers 'know' me.
I would never have thunk it! but after such a strange (and difficult) year - Christmas 2016 will stand out as a 'best ever.'
Wishing all wonderful Fabbers a Happy Holiday!
