I agree with you, Isabel. There are so many places on earth where people have to live with this every day (and many that don't even make the news like Aleppo does right now). It's easy not to pay attention until something like this happens and we are suddenly affected ourselves.
The Christmas market was next to the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche, which was destroyed in WWII and is now not only a well known sight and symbol for Berlin but also a museum and peace memorial.
I fear what will happen at our Bundestag election next year. Unfortunately this plays right into the hands of certain people.
