What do you wear to the beach as a cover-up that would give sun protection?

I like the long sleeved shirt suits they have out when I'm in the water. Originally designed for surfers. I burn just looking at the sun, so I am fine with the coverage.

For just sitting on the beach with the girls, I look for light weight cotton that covers my shoulders at the very least.

love the attached find...it's long enough to work as a beach cover up (ie for walking to and from the beach and into a shop for coffee), loose enough that its comfortable, but its got an SPF of 50, so I could wear it look a rash guard as needed

I have the short sleeved version of kkards find. I also wear a hat, lots of sunscreen, and try to sit under a beach umbrella as much as possible. I reapply sunscreen every time I get out of the water. I have a couple swim shirts too, one is short sleeved and one long. I usually wear those while snorkeling because I always seem to burn my back otherwise.

Twice I've bought a cheap cotton mix pullover t-shirt dress intended as a quickie beach throw on. Both times I ended up loving the dresses and they saw more wear than I expected. No Name Sunscreen - SPF 6O un-scented - the stuff intended for kids. And, a hat!

I wear a long sleeved rash guard in the water and a long sleeved sun shirt (loose fitting) + a hat on the beach. (So: sporty not dressy.) Lots of good choices at Athleta this year.

I just ordered a swim cover up from Chadwick's that has 3/4 sleeves and is about mid-thigh length. It has crochet detail but is mostly solid and made of rayon. I haven't ordered from them for years, I'll see how it turns out.

I hadn't even thought of Athleta for a swim cover up so thanks to those who mentioned it.

And I'm now thinking about whether a swim shirt or a longer cover-up might suit my purposes. You've given me a few things to consider!
