Ugh, I am in such a pickle right now!

This morning I went ahead and bought the Miz Mooz Kailia riding boots. I have been wanting a pair of riding boots to replace my La Canadiennes, which no longer fit well, and I really liked the style of these and of course the brand.

But lo and behold, that Kenna-T strong shoulder blazer I was eying before it ran out of stock came back. But it is really expensive. I only spend upwards of $100 on footwear and winter coats so even at 40% off, this is painful for me (it was originally $255).

If I hadn't bought the boots, I would have probably sprung for the jacket. But I can't have both, even though both are things I have wanted for a very long time. I have been waiting and waiting for a version of the extended shoulder jacket to filter down to H&M prices, and somehow it just hasn't and I'm getting frustrated. This one is perfect in every way.

I'm not worried about trendiness--trendy is my style so I never really worry about it. I don't think the shoulders are SO overwhelming that they will date the jacket. It's just a subtle architectural detail I like for my body type. Other than that, it's quite classic.

The logical thing would probably be to just order both, since the boots may not work out anyway...but I can't trust myself. If I love both of them, I know I am not disciplined enough to return either and even if I am, I'll end up regretting it.

Sigh. If only Nordies gave out coupons...

Maya I say order the blazer. I know you've mentioned wanting one quite a few times. I don't recall any mentions for new boots (or if you have obviously I noticed the blazer mentions more leading me to think it's on your mind more, or at least it's on mine.

Keep in mind while the boots look ordinary, the calf circumference and hight aren't.

That blazer is so you, I can't stand it! The boots I know calf fit is an issue, but they look a little standard issue. The blazer is a stand out piece to me. I'll be curious to hear what others say.

For YEARS you have wanted to build your footwear collection but had no money. And you have very fussy feet. Leave the blazer and concentrate on footwear.

OMG Maya - I refuse to be the voice of reason (at least in this case.) The pic of the blazer took my breath away. In fact I am trying to figure out how I can justify spending the money on it. I mean, its 40% off!!!!!!! The boots look great - I totally "get" the height and calf circumfance issue. Can you afford both if you just eat popcorn for a week? Or, how about eat Lucie's food for a week??? :-))))

As much as I love my Lucie, there is nothing in this world stinkier than cat food breath. Yuck! I'll pass. No blazer is worth it. I'm sure it would help if she brushed her teeth, but still...

Sadly, I can't afford both. I want to have some spending money for the YLF Philadelphia gathering on Saturday. I think the boots are supposed to come tomorrow so I guess I'll see how they stack up, and if they disappoint, hopefully my blazer will still be there tomorrow. Or maybe I'll get a surprise and see it at the Rack.

The reason you hadn't heard boot complaints is because I didn't realize I had a problem until this morning. I had a very important client meeting today, and had my whole outfit planned out, which included those blasted La Canadiennes. Yet once I put them on I was alarmed at how snug they felt. They used to be my comfiest boots, but I think my feet are bigger now or something. They are a 6.5 and lately I have been wearing 7's. Anyway, I really didnt have anything else that would have worked and I had no choice but to panic and put a new, much less fab outfit together at the last minute. I had been planning to get the Kailias for a while now but was delaying it. This morning made me realize I shouldn't put it off.

Argh, Maya! I was going to say, "order the blasted jacket before it's too late!" thinking that if the boots don't work out, then it would probably be too late to nab the jacket. I have also had my eye on those same boots though ~ the right height and circumference are hard to find ~ so I'd love to see you end up with both items. I know, I know ~ that's not reasonable. So listen to Angie, who knows you well and is the VoR par excellence.

Wow, that's a tough one. Both would be great for you. I lean toward the boots though, being the boot gal that I am. And it seems like that's where a major hole in your wardrobe is.

If you decide to order and it fits, maybe Nordies could do a return and rebuy if the price goes down some more? I overheard a SA advising someone to do this on the phone. I had no idea one could do that.

Yikes, but it's also extremely annoying to have to redo an outfit (and pick a less than fab version) because of footwear issues. Those of us with fussy feet plan out outfits around shoes, and yes, it really helps to have good options.

Maya - is there any chance a cobbler could help stretch your La Canadienne boots? If your feet have grown in length, they can't help, but if it is width they may be able to help. . .

I commiserate with your foot problems. All through high school and college I wore 7.5. Then sometime in my twenties my feet needed an 8.5 to feel happy. I always thought it was because I was running, but now, hearing you, I'm not so sure. . .

I would order the boots. It is so hard to find nice boots that do not come up high on the leg. I sent my Corso Como back and ordered the Miz Mooz boots. I can't remember who but somebody posted them on YLF and they looked really nice. You can find another nice blazer. The boots will last much longer.

Sara, every year the La Canadiennes would feel a teensy bit snugger than the year before, but never enough to bother me. I kept wanting to replace them but put it off since I had more urgent holes to fill. But today when I put them on for the first time since last year, I was shocked. I am not a runner so I don't know what the reason is. I haven't gained weight either. I still wear a 6 or 6.5 in sockless, open shoes like sandals and ballet flats...but for oxfords and boots a 7 feels best. Maybe it's because my feet have become used to how much better a 7 feels so it's all relative. They just felt small all around and they are pretty beat up anyway. They're not "normal" La Canadiennes. Lord and Taylor has some of its own exclusive styles that seem less luxurious than regular LC's, so they were much less expensive and probably not as long lasting.

Lena, that's interesting. I'm not surprised I guess, since it's Nordies. 40% is a lot though. I don't know if it could go down any further.

Here are some other options, none as perfect as the KennaT blazer I'm afraid. I prefer the length over the Kenneth Cole jacket. The BB Dakota one is only available in a 2 and I think they run small, so I might have missed the boat on that anyway.

Maya don't you already have a black blazer (if I remember correctly, and quite possibly I don't!) And weren't you just syaing you're not reaching for your blazers as much now? I say pass on the blazer and go for the boots.

Disclaimer alert: I am very pro-boot, and quite ambivalent about blazers, so my opinion may express that!!!

OK! I'm plunging in here without reading the rest of the comments, so perhaps you've resolved this already, but here's my two cents.
Ditch the boots, get the jacket. You've been pining away for a strong-shoulder jacket for longer than I can remember! I suspect that it will be harder to replicate if you let it go now, whereas riding boots will ultimately be easier to shop for. Plus, shoe sales are far more common than Nordy's ones, plus you have online stalking options.

I completly underdstand you have a budget. It's very important that you stay within it, as it's a life skill we all need to have and use (even in our 50s darn it! LOL). You are right, you won't enjoy the items if you are feeling guilty for overspending.

Use your logic and help decide which one will be the one (for now) and get that without hesitation.

Which will you get the most use out of over the next six months? (Thinking winter here...I)

What about the next 2 years? How many times do you think you'll wear the blazer (per week or month)...What about the boots if they fit as well as you think they will?

Which one is harder for you to find? (I think it's probably the boots) If you pass on these will you be able to "make something else work" in the meantime, until you can afford them?

Don't we all wish we had an unlimited budget! LOL

I'm leaning towards the boots since it's coming up on winter and you'll need them more...I do however see why you love the blazer!
