Malcontent (and others): I don't think modern classic or feminine style is boring, to be clear. I guess I just prefer to be surprised every so often, know what I mean? It's important to push one's boundaries regardless of style persona, otherwise you risk getting yourself in a rut. Also, there is trendy and there is trendy. I don't think everyone has to embrace fringe fashion like harem pants and stirrup leggings, but surely there are some more mainstream trends worth trying. Some people still won't even TRY skinny jeans after what, 6? 7? seasons because they are so convinced that they are a) unflattering and b) going out of style any day now. How many years does something need to endure for before the "trendy" stigma is dropped? How do you "know" something is unflattering without trying several variations of it?
Even so, within each trend, there are so many variations that you can always find something better suited to your body type. If you're not into the boxy/slouchy boyfriend jacket, there are plenty of sophisticated and fitted versions (on that note, I am very curvy on top and adore my slouchy BF jacket). There are few things that are truly universally unflattering on any one (or more) body type(s).
I spent years hating my newly curvified body because I thought it prohibited me from dressing the way I wanted to and the way I felt inside, but YLF has proven me very, very wrong. It's not prohibitive or even difficult. I just have a different set of considerations from my leaner, lankier counterparts. I have also learned from YLF that while the "common" woman always seems to contend that everything looks good on tall, thin women, the reality is that tall, thin women have their own set of fit and flattery issues that are in many ways even harder to resolve.
Marianne, you are no way boring! That outfit with your FL booties and that grey dress was orbit-inducing.
