BB shirt experiment - YouLookFab Forum

I re-upped my Brooks Brothers charge card when we went shopping for Mr. M. I did find some nice stuff on sale a couple of weeks ago. Ages ago I had a nice shirt in a bright coral pink--well, I didn't find that shirt, but I found this gray gingham fitted shirt on sale. I don't love gingham in most colors (Tammy Tell Me True etc.) but I liked the look of this one.

I'm trying to get away from gray as a neutral, but still have a lot. This will work. I like that it has the white collar, darts, and little ruffles on the cuffs. Wasn't sure of the size, went for a 10, no button gaps at chest. I wish I could have tried an 8.

Where will I wear it? Well, I will. I don't need business clothes much anymore, especially now, but this will be fun to wear if they ever let us out again.

I tried it with the wide leg white jeans--didn't work well and they were too tight in the waist today. I tried with navy EF pull ons, white jeans, and the teal skirt. Well placed buttons, no gap, a problem I have with a lot of shirts.

#5 is what I actually wore today. I don't have curvy enough hips and backside to properly fill out these J Crew crops, which I cuffed, but they turned out to be cooler as the day got warmer.

What do you think? Forget trying to wear it with a skirt? Never mind the footwear either. Just working on the shirt.

Very pretty shirt - love the white collar ( brightens the look ).
I like #1 and #3 the best. The skirt-shirt combo in #2 works but I'd try to roll sleeves to make it more casual and summer-y.
Stripy cropped pants in #5 look great with soft pink top and cherry shoes - fun outfit!

Oh, I was going to say to tuck the shirt into the skirt, but I like slimcat's idea of scrunching up the sleeves. This is a great, versatile shirt!

The shirt looks great on you - greys come in lots of shades and this one works! I like it with the black and white jeans best.

The dark buttons pick up the dark pants and dark skirt. I like the curved hem, so untucked works. Pretty details (cuffs). It would look great with a blazer (the plaid one?) but leave the blazer open (not buttoned), ‘pop’ the shirt collar, and sneakers or loafers. Juxtapose further with a canvas and rope bag or a straw bag.

I like BB shirts. You will probably also like Foxcroft shirts that are less expensive and often do not need ironing. They come in lots of co,ors and sizes. I think Angie had one in her finds blog recently. I put the Find below but most Foxcroft shirts are more traditional button downs

I wear my own shirts like tees. I just wear them! Scrunch the sleeves for a more casual vibe.

The shirt looks fab on you. In the close-up the gray almost looks to have a greenish cast, a nice tone. I like it all ways you've shown, but especially with the white jeans and sneakers (I know you said not to consider shoes, but I thought those were super cute with the outfit). Another possibility--may or may not work--is to unbutton a couple of lower buttons, roll up the bottom of the shirt a little, and tie the front. It could be cute that way with the skirt, especially.

Wow, that's a beautiful button down on you. The fit is perfect. Love it with the white bottoms and really like it in all renditions. It looks very versatile! Agreeing with trying it with the sleeves rolled up a bit--makes it look more casual if you're using this as a casual top.

I like #3 best with the white pants and the shoes you are wearing. Also the black cat would be a nice addition for #3 although great in #1. Is he/she solid black?
