Battle of the orange skirts - decision made

Well, who would thought! I just couldn’t resist ordering this 2 skirts to match my new shirt. And now I can’t decide. I don’t necessarily need to get any of those if you think I should keep looking. Each has some pluses and minuses. Pleated one is more muted darker orange, and it could be all seasons skirt. I prefer the color of the tiered one, but this one is very lightweight summer skirt, a bit transparent. And in dire need of steaming. What do you think?

I'm late to share my love of that shirt on you and so glad it's a keeper! The first skirt has my vote by a wide margin.

I have a preference for the pleated skirt over the tiered one. Unless you are looking for a very casual skirt. I think the pleat one is more versatile, going either casual or dressy, but I would find it harder to use the tiered one for dressy, or office....Both look terrific with the shirt...

I like both skirts . There is something light and airy that appeals to me for the skirts #2 ( love light orange color as well ). The first one is more practical choice of course.
I think I'm loving the second skirt because of our long hot summers in CA ( and my sweater skirt got much less action during summer-fall seasons ) - I guess I'm no help at all - lol.

Pleats are in the lead! I am not sure yet, color is not 100 percent what I expected. It is more of a brick red than bright orangy red.

l realise I am a bit of a 'party-pooper' but I prefer the blue skirt that you paired with the shirt when you first showed it too us. But out of the two above I prefer the pleats. If it is not 100 percent the red you want I would wait. You have other options already.

Be honest with yourself - how likely would it be that you steam that second skirt every time you wear it? Because it looks like it would need it based on the photo (only you know the way the fabric behaves in-person, though).

Pleats, hands down! The first skirt seems like a much better match for your crisp, polished style.

I realize electronic screens can be deceiving, but the pleated skirt looks like a much better color match for your new shirt. At least, on my phone -- you have to decide if it works on real life.

What else would you wear this skirt with?

They are really different skirts and I like both for very different reasons. Right now it’s hot and today I personally would rather be wearing the tiered skirt…

I think they each have a very different vibe so it would depend on what you want from it. If it is for work, I would go with the pleats but I think for a casual outing the tiered skirt works. But in the phots the colors look different. Does one go better with the shirt?

rachylou - yes, I think heat is also affecting my reasoning. I am traveling in 2 days, and will be spending the whole month in a casual destination with temperatures in 90ies, probability over 100 in second half. But that also means I have to decide very fast and return the rest before my trip.

The tiered might be nice to wear with t shirts on very hot days or to the beach but the pleated is such a beautiful shade of orange, so refreshing with your shirt and so flattering, really lovely.

RobinF - yes skirts are different colors, but I think both work with the shirt, pleated is little darker than color in shirt, and tiered is little lighter and brighter.
I am looking for something to wear in the heat. I just can’t do pants or jeans in July and August. But I will be spending a half of that period on vacation, so office wear is not a top priority. But it is a bonus if I can get more wear out of it.

I vote for both, haha! It seems like you want and will use the tiered one now. But maybe the pleated one will work better for the office? (It’s gorgeous!)

I was going to say the second reads as very casual - and almost beyond boho into hippie territory for me ( probably based on long past associations with that style and fabric). But maybe that works great for your travel plans? For your normal style definitely the pleats.

They both look good and suit you, on my screen the first looks a better match to the skirt but I know screens aren't always good for colours.

The first is a work, dressy skirt and whilst it could easily be worn in the weekend I see that being a city errands weekend rather than a vacation.

The second is a vacation or weekend skirt. Great for hot summer but not likely to be worn outside that.

I would decide based on the gap you are trying to fill.

Thank you all. I am leaning toward returning both. I hope I can find something that I will be sure of and not question my decision. If the color of pleated skirt was just a little brighter, I would keep it, but in real life color is not summery enough. And summer is my main season for skirts. Tiered one has very nice fabric content and I think after initial steaming would not crease that much but this one is too limited, as you said, will get worn only for couple of weeks in the high summer.

Good for you for being picky! Not an easy decision to make but sometimes one that yields more satisfaction than immediate retail therapy.

I understand your frustration with oranges; I am facing a silimar dilemma. As for the two posted, the pleated is more versatile and complements the top better, but a brighter orange in a similar style would work equally well, so be picky. Find the color that makes you happy. Because it isn't next to your face, I think you have more leeway in terms of any orange you like coordinating with the top.

By the way, the top was an EXCELLENT buy. It looks fab on both you and Angie!
