Joy, I have waited a long time to reply. I have looked at the pics several times, usually after each person posted, to see if what they were saying could help me decide which pair I liked best on you. When I first looked at them before reading any replies, I could not choose between them, and at this point I still can't. They both look great.

I know you said you do not NEED two pairs of black jeans. Brace yourself. I am pretty sure if I was in this situation I would keep both pairs. My logic, if you had two pairs to alternate, would it not be twice as long before you need another pair? I don't think you would tire of either pair anytime soon as they are different looks because of the hems. And if sometime down the road they do feel outdated you could hem or change them at that time.

Several people on here say they buy duplicates of favorite items. Would this not be similar, ie, favorite items, slightly different. LOL

P.S. I don't generally settle for less unless it is somehow to my advantage. However I have no qualms settling for more as it generally is to my advantage.

Hoxtons and what Vix said.

Thank you, bridgie and Shevia. I am thinking of keeping both although a high waisted pair in blue denim may be a better choice. I have replaced low rise jeans in olive, grey, black, and deep burgundy. Blue jeans are next, but hard to find without rips and distressing.

You're very amusing Bridgie! But I think you may have suggested before that you're not a wardrobe minimalist? ( I don't think Joy is one either! And I'm not, but my space is rather full- or chocka, as we say here)

If you like the fit of the Hoxtons and want blue jeans, they are available in a couple of dark washes. I got a pair at NAS and there are some really dark washes available online on sale now.

you are all so wise. Thank you for your help.
Janet, thank you for reminding me of those jeans. I will order some. If they last awhile, the CPW will be pretty low and the sale helps.

Ack! Too late. They are sold out. Does anyone have any wisdom about AG jeans? I am thinking of these in finds below

I really like my AG jeans -- the quality is high and they seem to hold their shape well. I don't have those particular styles though.

Thanks , Janet. I may be able to hold off until next year's NAS. I need to reaccess what I have. It has been too warm for jeans.

I'm late to this party. I have a pair of Paige Hoxtons in black, from last year. Not released hem, but a little split at the side. I'm fond of them, and I like yours better than the NYDJ. I think the whole released hem thing probably has max, one more year, but if you're going to wear them a lot in that year, I think you should still keep them.

I like AG, but I will say I have owned both AG Farrah and Prima, liked them, but then passed them on earlier this year because I didn't find the cuts to be current enough.

Jeans are the backbone of my wardrobe for about 8 months of the year and I am very fussy about looking current with them.

UmmLila, thank you for your comment. I do have a pair of AG skinny navy colored jeans and, while the fabric is very nice, I am not crazy about them. I don't know why not. It might be the ink color or that the waist comes lower than I would like. I have a pair of medium denim Paige ankle jeans that may do for now.

First off I love the shoes you are wearing! AND your tee-shirt. It's just wow.
Personally, I love the hem detail of the Paige, especially with these shoes.
Hoxtons appear to be sleeker, but it's difficult to tell if this effect comes from the fact that they are leggings or if it's the cut. They are also more conservative.
What is your goal with these black bottoms?
If your goal is to find a unique piece, still a basic but something that will play an important role style-wise in your outfits, then go for the Paige.
If your goal is to get a silent, reliable supporting act that would highlight a great tunic or blend in behind a fantastic thick knit sweater, for example, then absolutely go for the Hoxtons.

Very wise, Krishnidoux. I will need to think about my goal. The fact that I have enjoyed wearing released hem crops this summer makes me think that I would like the hem detail although the jeans I am replacing are in the plain supporting act catagory. I do have other black pants (like Ponte) that can serve as leggings.

Ah! Maybe in the process of trying to replace a supporting act, you will find a star... and who knows, even a workhorse!

I'm finding it difficult to compare the fit on the top half. However, as far as the bottom portion, I think that the Horton split seam detracts from the pretty design of the ankle strap shoes and will do so even if you shorten or roll the hem. On the other hand, if you were only planning to wear them with various types of simple short boots, then I think that it is a nice detail to jazz up plain boots. In general, from the photos the Hoxtons seem more like a winter season style to me.

Joy you will tell us what you eventually decide, won't you? I am very interested in this process and how the different opinions interact when you are not sure.

I like them both, though sadly it is always so difficult to judge with black! I do find the ankle straps on the shoes and hem detail of the Hoxtons distract from one another. (Love the shoes! Love the hem detail! Love them together less...but my tolerance for maximalism is maxed out...apart from pattern mixing, that is...so your mileage may vary.)

What I will say is that in my own experience with a similar body type, NYD Jeans ended up feeling "mumsy." My first better quality jeans after weight loss were a pair of NYDJ. I am not sure which style they were. Probably not the one you have here. But they were high in the waist and high in the rise -- too high even for me, which is a near impossibility -- and although they looked good when I tried them on in the store and I thought I loved them, they ended up bagging out something awful and I never felt good in them. It turned me off the brand, perhaps unfairly -- and especially made me wary of any higher waist version of their jeans.

Very late to the party. Hoxtons are my favorite.

I lost a post somewhere in there, but I am leaning toward keeping the Hoxons.and returning the NYDJs. The latter are called skinny leggings, although not a knit and not that fitted on me. I have ordered the blue denim Hoxtons on sale now but have not received them yet. They do not have the hem detail. I need to try on the booties and shoes that I would probably wear with the black ones to see how the hem looks. It is a bit longer on me than I would like but could be trimmed shorter. Love the fabric, but it does not seem all that warm for winter.

Suz, I really liked my NYDJ Dianas and still have the white boyfriend version. At age 71 I am not too concerned with looking "mumsy", but would like to avoid it.. I am just tired of revealing too much of my stomach and back in a low rise. The right higher rise helps control the fluffy bits. It is just finding it. back pocket placement is also an issue.

Joy, you couldn't look "mumsy" (as I define it) if you tried, even in the worst pair of jeans in the world. You always look fashionable and "with it." And if you have found other styles in the brand that work, it is probable that I had the wrong jean for me at the wrong time. I actually like a mid to higher rise myself -- but in this case it was just too much fabric in the wrong place, I guess.

Suz, the jury is still out as to whether or not I will be happy with a higher rise jean. I am afraid that with the higher rise will come all that extra fabric and baggy bottoms...the whole reason that I embraced low rise in the first place. We will see. I am hoping that stretch will keep things tightened up. Thank you for the boost of confidence that I will not look too mumsy.

The Paige Hoxton jeans looks good on you. Go with it. It fits perfectly and accentuates your curves.

Joy, I think for each of us there is a sweet spot. I have learned that up to about 9.5 I can go. If it goes past that, I get into the dreaded too long. I still prefer a highish low rise (about 8) or a highish mid-rise (about 8.5) or a high rise of about 9.

Thank you. Angie, that makes my decision easy. I will keep the Paige and return the KUTs. You are always right.

The dark denim Paige came and are more form fitting than I want. They do say ultra skinny buy most skinny jeans are more straight on me. That's what I want, high or mid rise slim straight jeans. The black Kuts and dark denim Paige are being returned. I think I will keep the black Paige Hoxtons. They are not as fitted as the blue denim pair. Maybe I don't need a dark denim pair this year.

My vote is for NYDJ.

I vote the Paige. I ordered the same jeans and can't decide to keep or return because they are a touch tight. Do they stretch some as you wear them? I bought the NYDJ a few years back and they got extremely baggy.

PSA for those looking for black jeans on a budget: LOFT has some, Marisa legging jeans. The denim is fairly light weight. Stretches for comfort, but doesn't bag out during the day. Best of all, comes in petites -- no hemming required!

I got them in black and olive and will likely duplicate the black ones.

Reneeb, it has been too warm to wear jeans yet although I did wear the Paige around the house for a few hours and they relaxed some, so I think they will stretch out some.
Shiny, thank you for the recommendation. I will try to get to the mall soon to check out the Marisa jeans.
