Bailey 44 Dress - Not For Me - YouLookFab Forum

After a great deal of thought (to the point of ad nauseum!) I have decided not to purchase the Bailey 44 dress in navy in the shorter length. Here's why:

1. The cost is significant and I have some concerns regarding the quality based on some of the reviews.

2. Because I would only wear it to work with a jacket due to the "va voomness" of it, it limits the way it can be worn. Even though I love jackets, there are days when my hot flushes are worse than others and I want the option of being able to take my jacket off.

3. Even though I felt great in the striped t-shirt, I don't think I would feel the same in an all-over striped silhouette. I'm not ready for that amount of body con at this point.

4. When looking at my style and where it seems to be heading naturally, the dress just isn't "me".

5. Winter is heading towards the end and I'd rather save and spend on spring items since my spring & summer wardrobe now needs an overhaul (winter is pretty much good for now).

I really want to thank EVERYONE for their input - all comments and suggestions were very welcome and really helped me to reach an informed decision. Should a wonderful day/work dress present itself at an excellent price point, I will consider it.

There's something very liberating and confidence-inspiring to realize that an item is not for you. Celebrate this just as much as if you'd found the dress perfect for yourself! You're getting savvier and you're learning more and more about who you are with each experience.

Some times you just need to "talk it out". Isn't it nice to have a bunch of people who understand to talk to? I'm glad you were able to decide. It would have been easier if you could just go try it on, but that wasn't possible, so you did the next best thing!

I know it is a big decision especially when you have to pay for shipping and duty it becomes an expensive experiment. There seem to be some knock offs in stores right now. Are there any department stores near you where you could try one on without ordering it?

Hey, you've got a great top to wear and enjoy multiple ways - no jacket required! I'd say you're getting a taste of that style in a way that you can be comfortable. Excellent choice.

I really enjoy it when I can make a conscious decision not to buy something that would not work for my lifestyle. It is almost as satisfying (or even better) as returning an item that is not perfect. Plus, this way you'll get a lot more wear out of your gorgeous striped top!

Shannon, your striped shirt score is enough for me! And hey, hopefully that style will continue to pop up in the market in Spring iterations. Then you can try it without any commitment or pressure, and perhaps even a lower price tag.

I love the logical process you went through to come to this decision. I need to do this type of analysis more often before taking the plunge and ending up with something that's not right for me.
