But kind of crazy price, even when on sale on Beyond the Rack.

Well, I'm off to a good start. Only purchases in January so far are thrifted Clare Vivier clutch (butter soft blush leather for only $40), and a pair of teal metallic loafers on shoedazzle for $23. Unheard of self restraint for me, but I did do a crazy big shop in Chicago in December, so feeling very chastened.

I will say that SYC to save for the bag of your 2014 dreams is a worthy cause, and makes you feel great when you get your bag. Then again, I'm a bag enabler and my advice should be taken with a grain of salt and a side eye. I just want to see your bag pics when you decide!

All of these bags are gorgeous! What color are you thinking of buying?
I love handbags and feel that a really great bag can make a look, so if can SYC and get a dream bag- go for it!

well, I'm also a bag enabler. i say you for it…but i would ask, have you actually tried each of these bags? do they hold what you need? are they comfortable to carry around (for me the prada, as nice as it is, would be a big no, because it can only be carried in the hand)? are they easy to get in and out of, can you find what you need?

kkards - you make very good points. The 2 jours is really a good fit (it looks great on me if I do say so!) but the Prada does need a try. Handle drop is only 5" so wouldn't work with a coat.
MRL - i am thinking basic black. Classic and goes with everything. Although orange can look hot too (or tan...).

Nicole , have you seen this bag at Danier? It looks very similar to Fendi including saffiano leather.
It is not the same of course but for 1/20 of the price maybe worth considering?
I have my eye on cobalt and bone!

If you're going to do that Fendi, you gotta do it in that cherry red... the color really makes it, IMHO.

As for me, it's gorgeous but unfortunately way too big for someone only 5'0 tall. Sigh.

I have had my eye on that MK bag in the white snake skin. Have you seen it in person? If so, how heavy is it? (MK bags can be so heavy...)

Sveta, I may just check that out. I'm a bit annoyed at Danier since I bought a bag there and within about three wearings, the bottom corners are really wearing badly. That's another reason for the saffiano leather, hoping it will wear a bit better.

Nicole, if you have a problem with your Danier bag take it to the store and they may replace it or exchange for another one! I saw a lady there once who brought a bag in because one of those little feet came off after almost a year and they exchanged it for another bag because this model was no longer available.

Nicole, you have amaze-bags! Are you using the Modalu 'Pippa' bag? It was in blush, right?

Just to counter all the enablers, I'll play devil's advocate...

I like the shape of the bag you are looking for. Black would be ageless and classic. Do you have any other black 'ageless and classic' bags that you use and/or love? Is this different/unique from what you already own? Does this fill a void in your purse collection? In addition to killer style and beauty are you looking for something practical, or collecting?

That said, whatever your budget is, set aside the amount you don't use each month and when you have the amount for 'the bag' if you still want it, get it. Just a little bit of deferred gratification.

FWIW, the Prada gets my vote!

I am still trying to figure out my feelings towards bags - my current favorite is fake leather Zara and super cheap, but I love the style of these bags and the Prada one is the most perfect, the Rebecca Minkoff the least from what I can see.

I tracked some of my purchases some of the time in 2013 and saw concretely that I spend a lot of money on unimportant, inexpensive impulse purchases. It's a habit I want to break but I find it incredibly difficult, partly because I feel guilty buying big-ticket planned purchases.

So what this has to do with you is... if you're trying to get away from what I'm trying to get away from, I could see the Fendi or Prada as being a good purchase. So much more worthwhile than this pair of earrings or that pair of colored skinny jeans. And if you do do it, please get back to us and tell us how it feels!!!
