I have needed to do a MAJOR closet edit for quite some time now (years)---and the longer it goes, of course, the more dreaded the task becomes. It's so strange, because I CRAVE an edited closet, and I KNOW that I am MOST happy with my wardrobe when I am traveling---i.e., when it has been severely edited to fit in a carry-on suitcase. I once traveled for an ENTIRE summer with a tiny wardrobe/belongings as I rode my bike across North America, and carried all my gear in 4 bike bags, and a handlebar bag, and I was SO HAPPY with the items I so carefully chose for the journey. I know simplicity, I love simplicity, I crave simplicity---yet I have some major hurdle to treating myself to an edited closet. I'm wondering about a "work around" to editing, and wonder if anyone has tried this approach?

Has anyone removed EVERYTHING from their closet and then repopulated the closet with items they might take on a two week trip to their town/climate? I think I might do better, psychologically, if I were ADDING things INTO my closet (forcing me to choose the things I LOVE right off the bat, rather than trying to ferret out the things I DON'T LOVE) rather than SUBTRACTING and facing the things that were mistakes, the things that don't fit, the things that need a little something to be "right". What if I just "packed my closet" for a two week trip? Anyway. I'd be left with a big pile of things to put somewhere else---but I do have a storage closet where I suppose I could toss it all and live for two weeks and see how that felt. Any feedback on this approach?

I'm really enjoying reading everyone's unique situation.
