back-of-knee seam on jeans - YouLookFab Forum

So I've just gotten these Vince welt pocket skinnies from Nordstrom as a potential replacement for my much beloved but literally falling apart old Vince skinnies.

The fit is good (although it's 2 sizes up from my old pair!), and they are that same lovely soft but not overly stretchy denim as my old pair. The welt pockets are surprisingly hip-minimizing and very flattering. However, they have this horizontal moto-style seam at the back of the knee. It hits me slightly below where it hits on the model, so pretty much right at the bend. I like the way it looks, but right now I can feel it pressing into the back of my knee, especially when I bend it. I'm worried that it'll be annoying.

So, owners of these or similar knee-seamed jeans - does the knee seam soften up or get less noticeable with wear? Will I get used to it?

I have those same jeans as well as an olive pair in the same style and I haven't found the back seam to be uncomfortable at all. Mine fit a little bit loose in the legs, so I don't know whether that makes a difference or not.

If you're noticing it now, you might not get used to it. I'd proceed with caution.

They're neat-o jeans, though, if you decide to go for it.

It does soften up as these jeans stretch out a lot but not good for squatting in.

Thanks, ladies. Parsley and Elle, I'm glad to hear that you don't find them uncomfortable. They fit me like true skinnies (like on the model) but I can still bend my leg just fine so the seam is not constricting or anything. I don't expect to be doing any squatting!

Aziraphale, you have a good point. I think I'll wear them around the house for an while to see if I get used to them.

Seriously, if they bother you know, imagine them after a few hours of wear. I don't want to notice my clothes once they are on, so this would drive me bats.

Well, yeah, but the first time I wear a lot of things I notice things because I've never had a seam or a button or whatever there before. A lot of times I'll feel the pocket grommets on a pair of jeans poking my hipbone the first time I wear them, and every single pair I've had that has done that has softened up and conformed so they no longer press.

And, heck, the first time I tried skinnies, I thought it felt so weird that they were clinging to my leg all the way down. So I don't know. It could go either way.

Hmmm. I have those exact jeans and have worn them non-stop since NAS. The back seam never bothered me. I've never noticed it in wearing, only in viewing. I'm not sure what that should mean to you. I guess I'm in the "wear it it around the house for a while" camp, then if it bugs you, I think they need to go back. (BTW, don't you love that they are cut higher in the back than front so that you get the back coverage but not too much height in the front?)

Thanks, everyone. I'll definitely try wearing them around the house for a while. The funny thing is I didn't notice the seam on the smaller size (that I sent back because I could only zip them by laying flat on my back!), but maybe the seam was a little higher on those or something.

Test them in your house and check for comfort.

I would do some squats and also sit for a while testing them to see if they are comfortable. That back seam looks cute but of course needs to be tested for comfort.
