And the yearly camping trip. What have I missed?

The iPhone 12 camera IS better. Too bad I couldn’t wait for the 13. I was cursing the steller jays because I thought I couldn’t get a pic, but apparently I did. I even got a pic of a bird in flight! Pic 3 is a low cloud bank over the ocean. That was pretty cool - like looking out of an airplane window! Pic 4… anybody a naturalist? What is this slug?

On our trip to AZ in August, we became obsessed with an app called Seek. It’s free and is by California Academy of Sciences and National Geographic. You point your camera at an object and the app tries to figure out what it is. I used it for trees and bugs, mostly, because birds are fast and, of course, I was surrounded by experts.

Lilypup is good this year, no emergency vet visit!

I was thinking banana slug, but it wasn’t that bright yellow…

Wow, your pix have so much more nature & restfulness than mine (which were also shot on a 12). Hope your trip went well and was eventful only in good ways.
When my son was about 6, slugs invaded our garden. I deputized him to kill them, didn’t realize til he’d done in quite a few that they have way more internal organs than I had realized. I thought they were like the worms in HS bio class bitd.

Welcome back. Where did you camp? How was the weather? Was it fun? I got the iPhone 12 in May and really like it. You are right about the detail. We watched a duck family grow up last spring and this is one of my favorite photos of them

Went to Salt Point again, about two hours north of SF. Pain free in this pandemic situation. Has the added benefit of being nearby regional parks, where dogs are allowed on the trails. The first day was pouring rain, which was fun actually. After many decades I’m finally set up for rain

I am SO with you about the camera! I'd been using an 8 and it was antiquated. I couldn't wait for the 13 either and went for the 12. I love the variety here....

One year we had a plague of slugs. DH stepped on one on the porch and fell :/ Only once since we've owned the house though!

I've camped at Salt Point and it is beautiful and remote there. We plan to go back, maybe next spring. We had reservations to camp in Sequoia at the end of Sept. and they told us not to come, it was closed because of fires.

This thread has quite the collection of iPhone 12 users! May I hijack?

The camera(s) on my 12 are great, but I get frustrated one one part of photo editing. When I choose a frame in Live Photo and then save, the cropping changes! The frame gets tighter, so things that are near the edges (like my head in this example) get chopped. Obviously, I need to recognize this and take better pictures with more dead space at the edges, to allow for this. In the meantime, does anyone have suggestions of how to get my cropping to stay, even when I change the frame of a Live Photo?

I’ve tried selecting the frame and then cropping; the same thing still happens. Resizing with the crop tool does not bring back the stuff that gets cut off either.
