Back again with some summer wardrobe observations

I was on the road for the last few days and only now have internet access again. It was great, but also HOT! I felt like melting most of the time. I wasn't prepared for this weather. We did a lot of walking everyday and I wore my denim shorts all the time - but when I look back at the pictures I don't like the way most of my tops looked - I think I really need more structure with my tops! I buy all these tanks and t-shirts, I need more forgiving blouses and button downs or loose tops with a more substantial fabric.

The weather wasn't good for my hair and it looked frizzy most of the time, but I have an appointment for a haircut on Monday, so that's hopefully going to change soon.

P.S. I've only just seen that you could see my bra with the top in the picture below. Urgh.

Everything looks better when you're that cute. Just sayin'.

Love the hat! And you look fine, really. I know there's always a way to look better, but there's nothing wrong with the way you look here.

I stopped buying knits just for that reason. Most of my summer tops are either flowy polyester blend or silk this summer. I wear them with some structure on the bottom to show form. Otherwise I have been surrendering my waist since February.

Astrid, don't be so hard on yourself. I think it's a fine look, especially when on the go, toting a bag, and enduring hot weather! Pretty you, and pretty location too.

I think you look great here - who cares if the bra shows a little when it's hot and you're out having fun? But I do understand, many of my summer shirts are a bit thin on style. Tank tops and t-shirts for me too. I've only recently been trying to add a few better options - flowy but less thin sleeveless tops, a few super light weight cotton button downs that I can roll up the sleeves on and leave untucked but they still have a bit of a fitted appearance, etc. Oh I also invested in two super light weight slub 3/4 sleeve cotton "blazers" in White and Navy that have just a bit of structure (not much but they do have lapels) and these are great toppers as they still keep me very cool. And they look good with most of my shorts.

I know, tees are so hard to photograph but hey, if it is hot what are you going to do?
Silk and cotton blouses are good alternatives but they are dressier. Sometimes I just feel like wearing a good ole tee and that's that! I have a bunch of these in heavy rotation:

I think you look adorable, and I didn't even NOTICE anything about your bra until you pointed it out, and even then I thought, "really? that's nothing!"

I think you look like a model on safari in that pic. I love how your belt echos the color in your hair. You look fantastic in blue, and the white bottoms keep it summery and fresh!

Ah, but your awesome hat and bag are drawing all of the attention! You look amazing against that breathtaking backdrop! Still, it might be fun for you to try some wovens. I've been wearing more of them this summer and the knits I've added to my closet have patterns (great for camouflaging any lumps from a bra).

I've been purchasing more "woven" tops,too, and I'm loving them. Still, went I took four ten-year-olds to an amusement park today (for 12 hours). I went for knits! Your bag, belt and hat provide real structure and flair to your look. This is far better than most "tourist wear." And what beautiful scenery!

Rita, that sounds like a good solution, but I find it very hard to do waist surrendering well and I don't like poly mixes all that much. I think I 'll have to try a bit until I find the perfect summer combination for myself.

Thanks Texstyle! Some very lightweight cotton button downs sound like a good thing to add to my wardrobe. I don't think that the blazers would work for myself though.

Thanks Zapotee! I agree, I couldn't go without tees either. I just think a reversed tee/other top ratio would work better. I still wanted to add some more tops into my wardrobe anyway, maybe these should be cotton or silk...

Thanks Jenava! Good to hear that the bra thing wasn't too visible. I didn't notice it during the day, so maybe it wasn't a real issue at all. Love that you see safari in this pic! Maybe I'll have to swipe that hat.

Thanks Claire! The right wovens are hard to find, but maybe I should make an effort to find some. Patterned knits are generally more camouflaging, I agree.

Thanks Beth Ann! It's true, sometimes tees are just the better option. It's also true that I was more dressed up than most people around me, so that's that.

P.S. For those of you who admired the scenery, we were climbing the ruins of three connecting castles that were built between the 12th and 14th century. We were almost alone in the beginning, because it was so hot out there in the sun. But beautiful!
