Baby clothes - YouLookFab Forum

A project I started while off work has been sorting through the big box of baby clothes in our, shall we say, ‘storage room’. (We don’t have a basement) My boys are now 30 and 33, yikes! Neither is interested in saving any, as my youngest said “I doubt I’ll remember them.” They’ll be going to a baby clothes closet in town once donations are again accepted.

The oohs, ahhs and ‘I always loved this on him’.....
I finally decided to save a romper for each, along with a photo of them wearing it.
Observations:
1. Oxiclean really does work on those old stains! I hadn’t used it before.
2. Most pieces were made in the US!

3. I’m a weepy sap, but decided it’s best that the clothing be used and hopefully loved by others who need it.

Photo 1. The Oldest, who my mother said - looking back at baby pictures - wasn’t quite as cute as she thought at the time. Ouch!
Photo 2. The Youngest at 2 days - all 10 lb. 12 oz. of him.

Photo 3. Hand crafted blankets that will be going as well. Sadly, I have no idea who made the lacy one on the left.

Now on to the next box of “stuff”.

So sweet and a lovely generous impulse to pass on these special items where they can be used and appreciated.
Your son's baby portrait is beautiful. Soulful eyes and extremely cute!
The colors in that one blanket are so pretty!
I'm extremely sentimental and relate to how you feel. I'm sorry you are weepy. Ahh-- the passage of time.

I remember how hard it was to make the decision to donate my dad's suit. I had been moving that suit around for a long time, even through all the chaos of my active addiction and the uncertainty of cleaning up the mess it caused. I took comfort in knowing that someone, somewhere, would be helped by it in the same way that I was helped by so many NGOs when I got clean (sober). I hope it brings you comfort to think about some mother somewhere being able to dress her child in the same clothes your children wore. Donating those clothes is a very noble gesture.

Also? Congratulations on cleaning and organizing!

Ohmigosh. My little brother had a romper like that first! I feel you. Lol, though, *I* remember my childhood clothes. My mother and I went thru them recently... and we gave only one thing away. Lol. When an outfit is good, it’s good. Lol

That must have been hard to get rid of the cute little outfits. My son is in his early 30s, too. I have a box of things that he wore in photos or were handmade. Onesies were the best. We lived on the Texas Gulf coast and it was so hot. When he was first born I thought he was kind of interesting looking. When he was eight weeks old, we flew out to California to visit my parents. My husband was deep in the middle of tax season, and couldn’t go. On the airplane, a woman sitting behind me said after takeoff, he’s mine. He had, somehow, turned very cute in those two months.

10 lbs 12 oz?! I thought my baby was the fattest baby in the world!

I kept the outfit (onesie and hand knitted sweater) that each of the boys had on when I brought them home from the hospital. When DS#2’s favourite blanket started to shred, I made it into a teddy bear after basting it to a lining. He continued to love it, but it continued to degrade. His onesie fit the bear perfectly, and helped keep it intact. DS#2 is 28 and not particularly sentimental, but ‘Jackson’, sits on his dresser!

Good for you! This is a really hard thing to do, as I've done it with my kids' clothes, too. I love that you kept two you have photos of, and others will benefit from your generosity. And mine were big kids, too, with my daughter being 11 lb 7 oz., so go team big babies (and thankful for c-sections)!

I am not an overly sentimental person but I’ve kept a few baby outfits for each of our 4 children as well.
A couple of ours were the opposite of yours in size though, we had two preemies, both girls, one was 2lbs 2 oz and the other (adopted) was 1 lb 14 oz. I think it’s better to have a bigger start. Having such tiny babies was hard and is not always without long term effects.

The first picture of your son is just so cute! I can’t see the second one very well but the rompers are both adorable. Someone will be thrilled to discover those beautiful blankets should you decide to donate them. They look very well made and so pretty.

JAileen, oh, the many tax seasons with little ones! Now with the empty nest it’s a little adjustment having him around more after April 15!

Carla, that bear is about the most adorable thing I have ever seen - I love it!

Tina, what a challenge it must have been with preemies. Some of the pictures of them in incubators are simply amazing.

I’ve saved some clothing, toys, and handmade quilts. Hoping to se them on a new generation someday.
I love that you have the photo with each outfit.
Love the idea of making a stuffed animal from the lovey, and dressing it in a baby outfit.

My friend who has daughters kept the baby clothes so her girls could dress up their teddies in the clothes. I have kept one baby outfit from when my son was a baby and gave away the rest. I am lucky to have a nephew 2 years younger than my son, so his old clothes are quickly handed down before I get too sentimental.
