awesomely minimalist sandals or crazy design that won't stay on?

While searching for my toe ring sandals for Shiny, I got to browsing 6pm and found these. http://www.6pm.com/mel-by-melissa-mel-pepper-white I need new white sandals for casual wear and was going to see about canvas flip flops. I find these intriguing. But would you have to clench the toe thingy to keep them on? Hmmmm.

Assuming that the toe ring thingy is big enough, it actually should work. I've seen that style before.

Didn't work for me. I remember wearing this 3-4 years back. The toe thing is a constant effort. And it always slipped out and the entire sandal folded into half when it happened. Missed tripping many a times. I won't buy this style again.

Neel, thanks for the firsthand experience. That was my concern, having to 'work' at keeping them on my feet. I walk a lot. I don't want to actively hold a shoe on by gripping.

How interesting. I think it would depend on how tightly the strap fits on your foot - because you'd need it to be reasonably anchored so that when your foot flexes the ball of the foot would stay close to the sole. I'd be worried that a plasticy material like that would stretch as you wore it, especially on hot days.

Actually, those look like they could stay on, provided the strap fit well and the button thing was big enough. I'd be interested to see if they'd work. They remind me of Playmobil, for some reason.

I have a similar pair (with the large toe button actually being a flower). They're actually really comfortable and don't require toe gripping. It's all dependent on the size of the toe button part. If it's big they stay in place just fine since it serves to hold the front of the foot in place.

Hmm, now I wonder if toe shape or length is a factor as well. I have somewhat short toes. I'm going to leave these alone for now, simply out of the fear of the random possibility it will come loose and fold in two and tweak my already previously injured ankles. As a runner, I don't want to play with fire regarding foot injuries.

I could never keep them on

But, I don't like to think about or worry about footwear once it is on. I don't own any Birks because they don't have a back to them and keep sliding around on my foot. I accidentally kicked it off in the store while I was trying them on!

I prefer the minimalist sandals with at least a toe loop (a seatbelt, if you will) to keep my feet from gripping all day in fear. Anyone recall wearing cheap flip flops as a child, and when you run, the shoes would flip under and you would drag your toes? The shoes in the OP make my feet curl in fear of that happening!
