My cousin gets the Australian Instyle magazine. I flipped through it last night. I believe it was the February issue, had some fall fashion.
Some outfits caught my eye, and could work in the Pacific Northwest this spring & summer. Also I think I’m starting to feel my age, so rethinking lots of things. Will possibly write more on that later
The denim overalls with the striped shirt is cute, but maybe a bit young. Not sure of the cowboy shirt & jeans. Also the other day I overheard an Australian refer to a cowboy hat as a Texan hat
I like the plaid blouse with denim shorts & patterned sandals. I need to get away from my cut-offs. Cut-offs were my main shorts on this trip & sometimes I felt self conscious.
The mint jacket with baggy shorts looks good. I’ve wanted a dinosaur sweater since Coach first came out with them, just need to find me size.
The striped shirt and striped short overalls is super cute, but hmmm maybe a bit young again
Oversized cardigan with shorts and sock boots. I’m pretty sure I can do an approximation with one of my Pendleton cardigans
I love the pleated mint midi skirt with Dad sneakers. I think I’d like some sort of midi skirt.

Nice looks - I am enjoying a midi skirt and they do work 3/4 of the year here. I think the overalls are good too but not sure if I would feel too young or not.

Shorts are hard - this year I have gone off two of my pairs and I am wearing the black ones in the find or crops or a skirt or dress. Off my floral and denim pair for some reason.

fun! i do like the mint and toffee combo.

you know, i felt self conscious about my age in my 40s which seems to be resolving. 40s are tough as there are other "mid-life" things that either need to be resolved or made peace with so that plays out in how we feel about ourselves in clothes.

i can totally see you in the dino sweater. shorts, chunky sweater and boots seems so pnw.

Hmm they’re each very trendy. I do like the overalls look, and you have the kind of style that can pull them off :).
I also think the plaid pants and cinnamon sweater outfit would be very wearable.
Sometimes lately I feel a smidgen older too. Well, we are the lucky ones to have made it this far, as discussed in another thread.
I love that mint jacket but have no idea whether I’d find many bottoms to wear it with as I personally don’t wear white pants.

I am lots older than you and would wear the dinosaur top as shown with white pants except not heels, probably sneakers. I would not wear shorts. That is a young look because one needs perfect slim legs to pull them off. They are the focus whether you want them to be or not.

I feel you on feeling my age sometimes of late, Anna. After 45 last year it hit a bit. I think also ‘cause of medical stuff.

I think though, fwiw, you’d be great in these outfits. Fun loving and quirky don’t have to be just for the young.

I’ve seen you rock some very fun & spunky stuff and own it.

Also, I want a Dino sweater too!

I think you could make these outfits work for you by pulling together the themes. Absolutely go for the Dino sweater. So cute! And the overalls, it really is I think just how you style them so they are authentically you.

You need the Dino sweater, and I could easily see you rocking that skirt and sneaks combo. Also, lucky you, you look phenomenal in your shorts so keep on rocking the ones you are feeling!

I’ve gone a bit off my cutoffs last summer. I have such a hard time with shorts (yes, Opaline, if I went by Joy’s standard I never would have worn a pair of shorts in my adult life!), but they are so darn practical in a hot and humid summer.

The thing about feeling more your age is a little weird, isn’t it? I still don’t feel my actual age, but I am more aware than ever that some things don’t feel right on me anymore because they feel too young. Sometimes it’s a question of styling but sometimes I just need to turn away and be content with appreciating how I would have worn a certain style 20 years ago.

i tend to go on and off shorts...not sure why...
there is something about being in your mid 40s that really makes you feel your age...i think its the simple math that makes it clear that you are really and truely middle aged....it made me self consciense about what i was wearing, wanting not to look "to young" but not wanting to look "old"...the good thing...at least for me, was that as i move solidly into my mid 50s that feeling is fading and i'm more concerned about dressing in ways that make me feel like me and less concerned about "to young" or "old"...

anyway...i love most of the outfits shown....anna, i think you could make all of the outfits work for you, it may take a tweak here or there but you could come up with a verison that feels authentic....

and like Runclara i miss the magazines....

My 13yo is all over the striped ribbed tops. They were totally my signature last time around! I’m happy she likes them but it makes it very clear to me just how old I feel these days. Sticking with florals

Well I love these outfits, the dino sweater is soo much fun and great colours too. Our Autumn weather can still be warm, so it is interesting to see how the fashion includes traditional fall colours and mixes it in a way that caters to our higher temps.

It is interesting the comments about shorts. In Australia we wear shorts regardless of age or size because it is HOT - today it is 41.5C, yesterday it was 40C. I am quite happy drinking lots of iced water and wearing shorts and sundresses because anything else feels too hot.

Oh goodness ...photo #2 “Prarie Skirts “. Along the same line of the Gunnie Sax dress of the 80’s. Wore them while pregnant with boots in 1982 .
