So, in an exciting turn of events, I'm flying to Melbourne from Seattle next week! In light of this exciting development, I wanted to ask the YLFers in Oz (and anyone else who knows) if there are any shopping destinations I should be sure not to miss?

My body particulars are:
Large bust (36 H!)
Pregnant and/or Lactating
Plus size (US 16/AU 18/UK 20)

Unfortunately, I'm based in Brisbane rather than Melbourne, however as the YLF get together was in Melbourne last year, I have a tiny bit of info for you!

As you are more than likely to be based in the city, I can thoroughly recommend Bourke Street Mall, as it contains the major Australian Department stores (David Jones and Myer) and a variety of other chain stores. If you look down some of the side streets, time permitting, you may even come across a few independent shops. It is very easy to walk around. Be sure to go down some of the side alleys - some of the cafes down there are to die for!

Hopefully Deborah will see this and have more detailed information for you, as she is based in Victoria.

Have a wonderful time and be sure to pack both summery gear and some warmer clothing. Melbourne is renowned for having three seasons in one day!

I'm in Brisbane but keep lusting to go to Bridge St in Melbourne to the local designer outlet stores...
Veronika Maine is more workwear but I think their designs are a little funkier than many others (not sure what others think about that). i think Witchery do some pretty nice stuff but they go to 14 but this season i am finding some shirts which work. i think they do the best local interpretation of shoes and bags for the season though... Country Road is also one of our big chains... But over to Melbourne locals for the detail - I would love to know mysellf.

Laurel, random thoughts -
if you like vintage/thrifting/independent designs there are loads of places sort of around my area that I could help you with.

Re pregnant/lactating considerations; I'm not pregnant but am lactating, so I am with you in spirit; but I haven't worn clothes specially designed for that in a long while. There are of course places like that and if you're interested I could wrack my brains to remember them.

I'm not plus sized or large busted, but there's an extremely fab plus sized blogger who hails from Melbourne. I'd have a look at her site (she just got married so it's all weddingy, but most of the site is outfits and shopping), and even contacting her directly could be a good idea:

Hi Laurel, I hope you are enjoying your visit to Australia:). I recommend you go shopping with Fruitful in the city...she is lovely. Not knowing your style i would recommend, as Katiepea suggested, David Jones, and Myer in the city. The Quick Brown Fox is a funky boutique - these are all in the city. In fact you could probably get lost just wandering and shopping in the city for a day. There are some great shops at the Crown Casino complex. Chadstone Shopping Centre is huge, all under cover and has stores ranging from Target to Chanel. Jacqui E is a middle of the range store and they cater for sizes up to 18. IMO their clothing is made for 'real women'. We also have the Essendon Direct Factory Outlets - I haven't shopped there but I hear it's very good.
Unfortunately I recently moved a couple of hours away from Melbourne, otherwise I would have loved to organize to meet. If you and Fruitful fancy a day trip to Bendigo, we have some fab vintage stores and some lovely boutiques and some very cool cafes.
I don't work Tuesdays or Fridays, so if it's a possibility let me know, I would love to meet you and it would be great to see Fruitful again. xxx Deborah

Oh boy! This is shaping up to be fantastic! I think I would prefer not to travel up to bendigo, as wonderful as it sounds, as I have Clementine with me (she's one), and we're going on a road trip the week on the 27th.

Unfortunately I'll be in wakool on the 1st. I'm available on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. Possibly also the 24th. Does that work for anyone?

Laurel replied to me via PM, she doesn't have a phone and I imagine has limited internet access.

She wants to keep it really simple as she doesn't have much energy at the moment. She's happy to do a bit of window shopping and a cuppa, but really needs bra/maternity clothes in her size, as well as plaid pants. I'm actually wondering would it be best waiting to go home for those kind of basics as I think things are a lot cheaper in USA? Opinions please

I am thinking that if there is anything I can get here, like if there is a store that sells h cup bras, then I'll get it here, as there's not at home!

How exciting that you are going "down under". My mom traveled there and spent 6 glorious weeks. Hopefully I can go someday. I don't have any advice to offer but just wanted to wish you a wonderful time!

The Block Arcade! That was my favorite in Melbourne. What about coffee and cake at Hopetoun Tea Room? I just loved wandering the lanes of shops and cafes...sigh. Still have the top I bought at Brown Sugar....sigh, happy memories...

I'm really enjoying your appreciation of Melbourne. I'm not patriotic, (we can't choose what country we are in so why should it make us any better than someone in another country) but I do feel very connected to Melbourne! I'd love to visit SF, sounds like a lot of interesting and openminded people are there.

Oh yes, Melbourne is the best place in Australia for shopping. I'll second Bourke St and Quick Brown Fox, and De Graves Lane has a store with Fluevog, Camper and other shoes in that style. The laneways are good for finding unique accessories too.
