Austin, Texas- What to See and Where to Eat?

Hubby and I are heading on a trip to Austin soon. We’re staying in a hotel close to downtown and have plans on spending a day or two in Round Top for the flea market. Any other suggestions?

Brush up on your two-step, put on your boots, and head over to the Broken Spoke for some live music and dancing!

Put on your walking shoes and head for South Congress street. Eating and shopping is very good. And some VERY fashion conscious pretty people.
University of Texas area has some truly great museums and galleries. The Harry Ransom is a fave.
Zilker Park has loads of trails and lawns and paddle and rowing boats. People and dog watching at its best.
The Broken Spoke is a great Texas experience, still. Check with the locals for great bars and music, always changing.
I would take an Uber rather than driving anywhere, traffic and parking is highly competitive and the traffic jams are constant.
I’ve been gone a bit, but always look these places up when back visiting friends. Like tomorrow!

Are you vegetarian? I am, but I still took my sister & parents for bbq at Dripping Springs when I lived in Austin. They loved it!

Voodoo Doughnut is a must-stop.

And for a hole-in-the-wall, one-of-a-kind sort of retro experience, check out the Austin Toy Museum. It is NOT a "museum", but rather an odd conglomeration of sometimes poorly and other times cleverly displayed toys and action figures from the '80s, mostly. Admission gets you free drinks and access to the arcade, as well, which is really the bigger draw, IMO. If you or anyone in your party appreciates vintage arcade games, pinball and even television console games, pay a visit. There's no time limit, and if you go in the afternoon, there's no crowd.

The main branch of the Austin library is downtown and is amazing to walk through, particularly if you like architecture and/or books. It is largely sun-lit and filled with nooks, porches, and a garden terrace on the roof. Definitely worth walking through. Metrobikes (or b-cycle) are a fun way to bike around. It is inexpensive but you have to return the bikes (dock them) every 20? min (or maybe 60 min?). YOu can immediately check out another bike tho. So familiarize yourself with the system before renting. https://austin.bcycle.com/
