Summer weather is not done here, not by a long shot, but my summer purchasing is. I always find it helpful to write up my thoughts about a season of clothes while I remember, rather than wracking my brain almost a year later when I'm trying to fill gaps for the season ahead.
In past years I wore a lot more dresses, but this year I didn't find myself reaching for them. Part of this was the four weeks of work travel I had - my planned capsule worked well, practically speaking, but by halfway through I was bored to death of it. More proof that I am *not* a minimalist repeater. Thus, I'm not looking for any more knit dresses, but I would love to find a woven shirtdress with a torso that's long enough.
Trends: I tried on some cropped flares and culottes, but didn't immediately love them or see how to make the proportions work for me. I finally started wearing ankle pants this year, so it's not like I'm on the bleeding edge anyway... I am so tired of boho drapiness in stores, so I really hope we start seeing some other options around.
NAS was underwhelming for me this year, which is OK. I got a little makeup, a robe and lounge pants, and a pair of taupe booties which have been a HEWI for a couple of years.
Aesthetically, I'd like to move into a more androgynous look, although I'm still working out the nuances. I don't want a three-piece-suit DapperQ look, although those folks look amazing; I want something more practical and casual. But how do you look casual/practical without looking frumpy or yoga-pant-mom (nothing wrong with that, it's just not my personality), especially when your body shape is unsylphlike? Those are some of the things I've been thinking about.
