Thanks for organizing a Challenge month, Carter!
I really associate with your post. My guest room closet still contains pieces that are from a previous/imaginary lifestyle. Too many structured office-wear dresses, skirts and blazers. I have pared it down a bit, but I'm lost on how to go ahead. I'm yet another Queen of 'what ifs....' and 'someday....' And 'you just never know when you need something'.....
HOWEVER, this year, I've done better than before and many of these dresses have actually been worn with flat sandals, printed scarf and cute tote to take them into 'casual yet polished' territory. I hope that will continue.
I've mentioned my August challenge in another thread but here it is again. It's a Wear What You Love Month for me along with SYC. I've altered my goals a bit:
1) Wear ALL of your dresses Atleast twice more before summer is over. It's the only way I would be able to gauge what stays and what can be donated by the time I pack summer clothes.
2) Wear whatever brings you joy. If skirts feel 'forced', don't wear them. Same for button downs or say capris. I have too many different silhouettes in clothes. I *think* I love them all....but do I? I want to pick out my favourites so my wardrobe can be simplified and I weed out everything that no longer works for my style before summer ends.
3) Incorporate Atleast 1 wardrobe orphan a week and create an outfit lab exercise where needed. I don't think those orphans can find a place in my wardrobe without help from all you lovely ladies on the forum.
4) Accessorize better. I want scarves to turn into my signature piece. However, this is not always possible, so necklaces will come into play too.
5) Figure out my shoe collection!!!! I owned over 100 pairs of shoes before I joined YLF. Over the last 3 months, I've removed about 35 but I did add a couple of sandals. I'm at a point where I LOVE all my sandals and they are serving me very very well this summer. I have happy, pretty feet. But then again, ALL sandals I'm wearing and loving this summer are bought this summer only. The older footwear is still sitting in its boxes....rarely coming out. The good news is that I've culled all uncomfortable heels....shoes that suited my imaginary lifestyle and not the real one. But I still have too too many shoes and I need to make some decisions before I store away my shoes for winter. I wear only sneakers and boots in winter because I dislike socks showing in bellies or any low vamp closed shoe.
Phew.....that's a lot to do this month. But my husband is traveling almost all month and I'm all by myself, so I have plenty of time to whip my wardrobe into shape and get rid of all other clutter in my house.
