Aughts pants revival--NY style

I got a sudden urge tonight to put together an outfit like J. Lo's in her video, Jenny from the Block. Or at least certain elements. A cap like that I am keeping my eye out for, casually.

But here I really like the pants, and how they are paired with heeled boots. Hers are a cropped cargo look. I don't have to have that, but I do like the wide silhouette that is very tapered at the bottom. Certain harem pants might work....

anybody have any ideas for pants like this? or sort of like this? I guess I'm looking for any ideas... does not have to be exactly this...just something cool.. sometimes I don't pick the right thing on my own.

That low rise is sooooooo '00's......hope is stays fringe if it comes back!

There are cargo pants almost everywhere, Carol! And joggers. And these look like a hybrid of the two. I vote find cargos and peg the bottoms for a more tapered silhouette like we did back in the '80s.

The newsboy hat you'll find online now too. It's a cold weather item. Have fun

Angie--that is a great idea, thanks. Now that I think of it, the rise probably is part of the look. I love a high rise, but maybe I can do a mid.

I do have a colored checked hat like this, but I would probably want a black one, with a combo of structure and pouf. Like this RL one here:

I think it might be called a baker boy cap. Like a newsboy, but with a band across the front.

I had this one pair of cargoes I wore in 2011-2014. They were leftovers from the early 00s, with a wider leg silhouette. (Not crazy wide, but not slim straight either.) I made them into joggers by pegging or pin rolling the bottoms, just as Angie suggested!

Still one of my favorite bottoms I've ever worn!! I highly encourage experimenting with pegging the bottoms of cargo pants to see what you think.

I will say that cargoes are not my best given how curvy I am through the hips. Still, I adored the jogger pin rolled leg silhouette!! The pants were this awesome mid olive green to boot. I felt very artsy cool in them.

PS Growing up, we always called it French Cuffing jeans. (Not to be confused with French cuff shirts.) Calling it pegging or pin rolling is new to me. Same technique and effect as far as I can tell.

Oh, Angie! I hope the low rise never becomes mainstream either! I am so tall, with such a deep rise, that low rise jeans were horrific. Muffin top. Tush crack. Chills up my back in the winter from the lack of back coverage. I remember some super low rises were maybe 3 inches above the pubic bone area. o_O It was at the height of lingering early 00s heroine chic and pop singers like Brittany Spears. (I feel so old even mentioning this lol!)

Ket--thanks for the encouragement...and the tutorial! Mine were always falling apart in elementary school, so maybe one of those will help me do it better.

I was also not great with low rise. I love the idea, but my butt crack was always showing, while other women did not have that problem!!!

Ha! I am actually very happy to see lower rises (not low rise, more boyfriend style hip slung) coming back! For those of us lacking of waist, high rises are a difficult fit! Anyway, for the elements here I highly suggest looking second hand online or in person.

I have no styling suggestions, all the cargo's I've seen are wide legs lately in stores. But this is a fun outfit! I like the idea to look second hand since wide legs are what's most commonly seen in retail right now. Good luck!

I like when it's possible to get mid-rise or high-rise without having to go crazy searching for them. (Although these days, it's really hard to tell what it is without seeing a photo of someone wearing it.)

I agree that real high rise pants are a difficult fit for someone without a really defined waist! One ends up with pants that are baggy in the seat. As far as I can tell, only men's trousers are made so that the waist can be let out. And men's cargo pants probably have a pocket big enough for a medium sized cell phone, and I'm sure they have belt loops, but I am not looking.

Karen--I actually do really well with high rise, but terrible with low-rise. I think the reason it works on Jennifer Lopez is she just has those great abs they can almost hang off of. I am going to hold onto the high rise trend for dear life.
