I agree, the price tag is hilarious. I remember in 7th grade (1992), I was so excited when we had to take Home Ec in school because one of the projects was making scrunchies (I think the guys got to make something else). It's like the easiest thing in the world to sew, takes 10 mins and maybe $1 worth of materials if that.
There was a scene in Sex in the City where Carrie and Berger have this fight because she said his story in which he referenced a NY woman as wearing a scrunchie was unbelievable because no real NY woman wore scrunchies. They see a woman wearing one while they are standing on line, and he triumphantly points her out. Carrie, stupidly, asks the woman where she is from and she's not from NY. Carrie now feels triumphant but then instantly realizes how she has emasculated Berger and tries to apologize but it's either in that episode, or the next, that he dumps her via a post-it note.
Well, as someone who opted out of the big-hair/scrunchie phase in the late 80s, I actually like this one. First the Marc scrunchie looks much more sophisticated in silk and ribbon than those ugly, cotton-print, made-with-loving-hands-at-home ones that were so ubiquitous back then. And, secondly, wearing said scrunchie with a long, sleek ponytail reminds me more of the black fabric bows that we used to adorn our low, sleek ponytails for a French look back in the early 70s.
Is it ironic? I never had hair long enough to really scrunch but I did banana clip my bobbed hair into a half pony while on call many a time. That look works for those under 8 but I can't say I really rocked it.
I'm picking my jaw up off the floor; I thought $32 was pushing it, but $2,620.27? Can anyone give me even a glimmer of an idea as to why that number is so grotesque? I mean we Canadians complain about BorderFree brokerage fees, but this is in a whole different stratosphere!
hahaha! Well I have a drawer full at home - my DD wears a navy school pinafore and her accessories have to be navy blue. We generally do a ponytail in a blue scrunchie and a matching blue fabric alice band. I've bought a gazillion as they are forever getting lost.
Funny how some things are universal. I remember making tons of those in high school too!
Hahaha! Funny thread. The HuffPost article is a riot. Totally fine for girls (and Moms, too, Sona), but being pushed as a $32 (or $2,620!!) fashion accessory? No, just no.
