Hi all, I travelled to our capital city Wellington 2 weeks ago for a Conference. While I was there I did a bit of shoe shop browsing (surprise surprise...) I didn't actually buy anything but I half fell in love with these boots. Since I ditched my plainer flat black boots about a year ago due to scuffing that I couldn't keep good, I've missed them. Now I had forgotten which shop I'd seen them in ( went in several, you see) but now having Googled have found they're from a chain ( Shoe Connection) which has no shops within many hours of here.
These are called Jeffrey Campbell Tagalong Studded ankle boots. Western-lite? They only have them in a 37 ( US 6), and I'm often a 36 ( US 5.5) but my Steve Madden booties are actually a US 6.5 and fit really well with an insole. Google says they may run half a size small so that would help me. $ 50 off currently and free shipping. I'm not much of an online shopper. Do you think these are my style, thoughts on sizing, how would they be in winter with black socks?
And they're not really quite "plain flat black boots" like I'm meant to be getting, are they?!
I could try and get cheaper from the US but Jeffrey Campbell's own website doesn't seem to have them and Nordstroms only in a different brown colour I don't like.BTW will go on my phone shortly and attach the Steve Maddens as well just to remind you- more studs, from 2013 bought in San Francisco and are my most worn with 54 wears. I don't know enough about sizing to help you. I can say that if a shoe causes me pain, I feel pain throughout my entire body. So the sizing needs to be right. It sounds like they might be one size bigger than normal? I would certainly try them ... especially if shipping is free.

Sock. I have no idea. I was thinking they were meant to be worn with a bare leg. But I don't see why socks wouldn't work. I'll come by later to see what others think.

I do think these look like you and that a 37 may be the best fit when it comes to a Jeffrey Campbell shoe... I think it’s worth a shot...

Jenni, you have a lot of style confidence and I think if you like them, they’re your style!
I would put these down as summer booties due to all the cut-outs. Not a replacement for the Steve maddens, but not a duplicate. Would you wear them in the summer/warm weather?

From personal experience with Jeffrey Campbell booties that are also open (mine are woven leather, not perforated), I would say that a half size up may work well. Also, I do sometimes wear black socks under my woven booties when I want to extend wear into cooler temps, and for additional comfort. I do this when wearing full-length pants so that the combination of short shaft boot and sock don't look odd.

These are so distinctive I would not really think of them as a wear-with-all kind of boot, but they are cool.

Thanks! Smittie and Janet, yes I'm sure you are right they are meant to be a summer bootie and wear without socks. I don't really wear summer booties... They feel "too young" to me. So I was thinking of wearing them in at least spring and autumn, probably all but the coldest winter days ( our winter is not that cold, no snow just rain). And with socks. Hmmm, maybe that will spoil the look.
Maybe this is yet another case of my falling in love with a shoe that is not very practical. I loved though that the heel is low and looks comfy, which is what I end up wearing the most. More pondering needed.

Those are very cool and look like your style. I agree they are not a duplicate for the others because of the cut-out nature. I am not sure how they'd look with socks, and also they would not be that practical in rain even with socks...but they're definitely a cool looking bootie and if you can justify these plus the plain ones, why not?

Interesting that you think they might be impractical, because I’ve been looking for a similar bootie with cutouts, thinking it would be SUPER practical for transitional and warmer seasons. However, people wear boots/booties year-round here, and it seems like you live in a more sandal-oriented culture. I do think you could wear them with the right socks, though!

Yes Jenn I think in summer we are more sandal oriented. In a big "team meeting" at the health organisation office yesterday, we were sitting in a big circle. Someone was talking on in a boring way...I admit my gaze wandered around all the shoes! My little crocheted red flats were the brightest. Only one young woman had booties with bare legs. The rest were mainly sandals. This is perfect transitional weather, early autumn. She looked good, but that look seems more a younger person's thing here.

Mainelady, I only mean booties with bare legs in summer ( like with dresses or skirts or cropped pants). In winter I wear them all. the. time.

YES to the boots, and the size will probably work.

These are fun. I would wear with black socks or tights in winter. I think they would work on dry days between March and October.

My only cautions are that they won't work in the rain - and checking how they look with pants. If you are indoors with work though that should be fine. I think they would look wonderful with blazers!!

I really like these booties. Very fun and interesting. I think they are perfect for transitional and warmer seasons. I am actually thinking of getting a pair of cut out boots - love the look with skirts and cropped trousers, but have not found any suitable pair yet. A perfect alternative to sandals and sneakers .

Jenni, I think these are meant to be worn without socks. I don't see age as an issue. I believe I'm older than you are and if I were buying cutout booties, that's the way that I would wear them.

Well thanks all I will probably order over the weekend. Worked like a crazy woman today and will do the same tomorrow.
I will try them on without socks just to see. I like the fishnet idea Rachy, it would match! I don't have any such socks or have seen them so hope we have some here.

Thank you jlpp- so sweet of you! Thanks Joy as well. I have ordered them today as the sale and the free shipping supposedly ends today. The only worry is that I couldn't seem to get the 20% off for my first order code to apply. I have emailed Customer Service outlining the issue and hope they will credit that to me.
Funny, both our girls are visiting today and both say "Oh Mum, those are just like your other studded ones!". I said the ladies of the forum don't think they're a duplicate and they said of course you would all say that Your reputation proceeds you, or something...
Will let you know when they arrive.

Hi all, they arrived yesterday. They're stunning in person. But- too big. By quite a long way, my foot flops around and my toes are a long way back from the end. I also couldn't get the 10% (not 20%, I made an error in above post) off because they were already on sale, they showed me to the fine print. At least they shipped here free so all I will lose is return shipping.
Also, when I tried them on, they didn't look that different from the Steve Maddens after all. Perhaps my daughters were right in their "Oh Mum" comments?!

I LOVED my Jeffrey Campbell booties, but passed them along to a niece because their smallishness in the toe box caused no end of trouble for my fussy feet.

If you have any foot problems toward the toe end, think thrice. Even when sized up, JC's are not for the supremely fussy of foot.

But if your feet are low-maintenance, then do indulge because the look is so fab!

That is a shame but at least you know.

There are some great flat and low heeled boots around this year so I am sure you will find something else. I could definitely see you in red boots!! Or silver or pewter could be great with your hair.

Oh well, the whole adventure cost $8.50 in the end to return them. And I did realise my "style nous" is getting good because I loved them just as much when they got here. There will be other booties that make my heart sing I'm sure. Thanks for everyone's support in the whole episode!
