Attention Yellow Bag Fabbers--ETA update

Question: when you wear your yellow bag as a pop of color against an outfit that has no yellow in it, do you try to tie the yellow in with anything else like another accessory? Or do you just wear it?

Well, I don't have a yellow bag but I do have some yellow shoes. And I don't own much else that is yellow, so most of the time I just wear it alone as long as the other colors go with the yellow.

My yellow bag was my pop of color.

However, I have nothing else yellow as I can't wear the color at all, but the bag I have was bought purely as color-therapy while I still lived in England. I felt so down because of the dark, long, rainy and grey winter, that I literally needed an artificial sun, and it actually did the trick, it really cheered me up.

I wore mine without any other yellow in the outfit. However, I have light hair, which is not yellow (I hope!), but which tended to bookend the bag a bit.

Angie has a blog post on wearing bright coloured shoes that might be handy here. It's a different item, but the principles are similar.

I found that it worked surprisingly well with many different colours in my wardrobe, even though I don't wear yellow otherwise. And I loved it. Sadly, it died. I'm on the hunt for a new one.

I think on its own would be great, however, it might also be worth investing in a few little yellow items to tie things in - perhaps scarves with a hint of yellow, a yellow bracelet or pendant. On it's own it will make a statement, with other pops of yellow, it will help to tie an outfit together. No need to go over the top, or go too expensive - just a few little cheapy items should do it!!

Great post! I really want a yellow bag as a pop of color and was thinking along your lines about needing a touch of yellow in the outfit or not. Looks like a pop of color seems to work for several here.

I don't have a yellow bag but I have a red one & I don't always tie something in. Sometimes the bag is just that...a pop of colour. Sometimes I do though.

I almost always have a yellow bag. I wear it as a pop usually. If there's another bright color in the outfit, that helps tie it in. Sometimes I have on yellow shoes but that can also look too matchy matchy. Overall, I just don't worry about it and step out with the yellow bag. I have yet to come across a situation where it didn't work.

True confessions: I was really talking about yellow shoes. Sandals. For my travel capsule to Costa Rica! I'll be going there to do language immersion. I want to take a lime green bag and was wondering if yellow sandals could work with it. (Note: this is not the same green bag that I've posted before.) I think it's possible, on the "equal intensity brights" principle.

See photo below, in which the bag should be brighter--the camera was confused by the backlit screen. Here are the virtual shoes with bag and three dresses in my capsule.

I think they are great combinations. The green is yellowish enough to relate back to the shoes and work really well together! I think almost anything would go in between!

Okay, thanks, your opinion means so much! I'll model them together when the shoes get here, which might be soon! I am trying to be more colorful and adventuresome and not just go to the tropics in black and gray!

I think they all work together quite nicely. If you have yellow blonde hair even better. Not necessary though. I wear shoes that don't bookend my hair all the time.

I was wearing my yellow/white oxfords with everything without anything else yellow in the outfit. It is more fun this way!
Costa Rica trip - how fun! We were on vacation there for a week and it is a beautiful country. Language immersion sounds like a lot of fun!

Love your plan, both the fashionable inclusion of yellow and green, and the sound of your trip! I wear yellow as a pop --- and I don't have anything but a purse, unless you count some yellow in patterns and prints, so I don't "match." Now, matching can work, too!, but I like your idea of blending colors of similar intensity.

Update: the yellow sandals came and I intensely hated the color. Sort of a horrible mustardy ickiness. There was no reasoning that it could work, because I hated it so much. I didn't even unwrap the sandals. But I loved the sandals stylewise, I mean I truly loved them, and thought they would work for walking around Heredia and San Jose in skirts and dresses, so I got them in black. I feel a little bit ashamed (to fall back on black) but these will work with my prints and solids and I will still be wearing a lime green bag! I think I'm more interested in lemon or citron for next time I go for yellow. The sandals were available in cognac but it was a reddish cognac and I know from experience that I'm not happy in that color. No nude/gray/low contrast type of color was available. Thanks so much for all of the encouragement!
