At what point do velvet jackets become unseasonal?

I have a great Merlot colored velvet jacket. I seem to only sport it during Thanksgiving and New Years. Do you all continue wearing velvet after the holidays? Mine never seems to make it out to play. At what point should velvet be tucked back into the closet?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's appropriate all winter (which is 9 months of the year for me!).

I have an olive velvet jacket, which I wear until maybe early March. It is in the first bunch of winter things that I pack away, but I don't limit it just to the holidays.

I don't own anything velvet right now, but I also think it's weather related appropriateness rather than seasonal. As long as it's cool enough, I'd wear it!

My idea of "velvet season" is when the nights are long and the days are cold, whatever that means! Where I live, anything before October past March doesn't seem to be velvet season.

I agree..anytime its cold, its good to go! I think November-March is the best...dont really see it as a Autumn item

I also have a merlot velvet blazer ( from Boden ) that I actually wear year round. If we have a particularly chilly summer evening I will thow it on over a summer dress or white pants. I never wear it with shorts though.

Maybe I am really out of style ! ( I don't think I would do a red velvet, but tomato red is not a color I wear anyway. Forgive me Angie. I like it , I just don't like to wear it.)

okay, not to hijack the thread or anything, but in a climate that's always pretty warm, is it still okay to rock a velvet jacket?

i have a gorgeous lavender jacket in a not-to-thick velvet that i'm longing to show off at the office (which is always arctic anyway). is that appropriate or would i look silly?

I don't know about velvet for warmer climates but I do think you can wear velvet the same amount of time as you would wear corduroy. For me that would be starting on cool October days and going until mid April.

I never worry about seasonality of fabrics. I love velvet and if it's cold enough I wear it year round. Same with corduroy.

I'm 100% with Lisa...I plan to wear my velvet blazer well into April, or until it just gets too hot! Mine is actually fairly light-weight, which helps.
