Asymmetric Hems - Staying power?

What do you think? Do you think this trend will be around for a while, or will it look dated in a year or two?

I love the drama a simple sweater with an asymmetric hem can add, but I am on the fence as to whether it will still be here in a year or two.

I like them on tops but not as much on dresses. I am not sure that they will have great staying power, but if you like them and they work well on your body, then why not get one or two and wear them to death.

I love them...I hope they stay. I think they are flattering and fun and they make me feel taller for some reason. Hasn't Angie said trends are good for 5 years in these flexible times? I hope that counts here.

For tops? For sure. An asymmetrical hem has a lot of staying power because it almost transcends trends and moves into avant garde territory.

I vote yes, hopefully.
I don't actually have any asymmetrical hem tops in terms of the typical angled hem, but have curved, shirttail, split, cocoon, high-low and really like how the not-straight-line hem works to break up the hip line.
Surely mild asymmetry has been around a long time and hopefully has longevity. Of course, more dramatic styles are, well more dramatic!

I hope so - they are a key aspect of my wardrobe. I think certain types of asymmetry (like the exaggerated hi-low skirt) will not stay but the BCBG styles will. Maybe that's just wishful thinking!

Asym can be both flowy/boho and strict/structural, so I think it prob has staying power.

I agree with Suz. For those who lean in that direction, there have always been asymmetrical items available. It is just that recently they have gone mainstream and are trending. The people who like them (much like moto jackets) will continue to wear them regardless of whether they are popular or not, while those who chose them because they were trendy will likely move on.

Since they are more flattering than a straight line bottom on a top, especially on an older woman who has lost her waist, and with millions of aging Baby Boomers, I predict that they will stay around.

I'm not as sure they will have fashion longevity.....varied hemlines go in and out of vogue. That wouldn't stop me from wearing something I love or that particularly suits my body though.

So relieved Angie gave the thumbs up, because I will be wearing them as long as I can;). I think that even though they have entered the mainstream there is still a slight Avant Garde element to them that I feel will provide longevity.

No idea if it will suit my body type, and I am not arty by nature. Yet, I have loved these since they I have seen them. I had been lusting after them all spring and summer, but they didn't come in maternity.

I have been thinking of adding one for my post maternity capsule, assuming I can find one that works for me.

This is one trend that I have embraced with all my heart. It fits perfectly with my personal aesthetic. I am buying them with the hope that their fashion moment is long. If not, I don't care.

Interesting - I discovered when going on a rampage the other day through my closet that I have a few of these tops/sweaters now, and again, enough is enough. It's a great , flattering silhouette, but I don't want to end up with a bunch of these tops that all look essentially the same. When something starts appearing in every store and at every price point like this, my inner alarm bell goes off.
