Asking Lana about brand XCVI: UPDATE saw them IRL

Fabber Lana has shown some items recently by brand XCVI. I really like the vibe and have been checking out their web site at http://www.xcvi.com

It's a Los Angeles CA company with a beachy, sporty, casual, and a little boho vibe as one might expect from LA fashion. I'm thinking of trying some pieces for my short summers and/or warm weather travel.

Also, on their web site "location finder" I see that there is a new-to-me boutique half an hour away from me that carries the brand so I'll go check that out at some point.

Lana and others, what can you tell us about this brand and your experiences with it? Have you ordered online or do you find them in boutiques?

Yay, I’m so glad you like XCVI! I discovered them in a friends boutique and bought a skirt 10 years ago, which I still have. Their cotton is preshrunk and linens are breezy, I really love the vibe too and feel they are excellent quality. They are great for warm to hot weather.

Recently I’ve been buying online from them, and they have a great return policy. You can either return or exchange for free, but often they will offer a credit to exchange instead of return. In other words, you get the return amount of your items, plus they add an additional credit. They offered me an additional 40$ to exchange my items recently which I did and of course I spent more money. LOL

My 10 year old skirt below. I don’t wear much black anymore but I love the shape so much I can’t get rid of it. I found the same design on Poshmark recently in beige and dyed it grey.

Thanks Lana! I have a good friend who has a skirt like your black one that she wears to host her annual Christmas party ... I'll have to ask her what brand it is. Thanks for the recommendations and info on ordering online.

I just spent some time checking out their website. I love the descriptions - rise, inseam. So helpful. I am also tempted to try them.

I have a couple of their tops bought on sale at Nordstrom Rack and like them, they are a bit slouchy. The bottoms didn’t work for me, I am a long waisted pear and the hip area wasn’t right for me. It wasn’t tight, just off.

I did visit the boutique I mentioned that carries this brand, so thought I'd report back.

Really nice quality and interesting styels with quite a bit of detail like seaming, grommets, zippers, etc.

They mostly did not fit. I tried a couple of summer midi dresses which were almost floor length with the waistlines below my hip bones. Not a good look needless to say. Taking in the shoulders might have worked but these particular dresses had too much billowy fabric on the lower body so I would not have like them even if altered.

They didn't have any tops but given how the dresses fit I'd expect them to need shortening.

The pants I tried were skinny cargos that fit well enough but I don't want pants with legs that skinny these days. Sizing up would have meant too high a rise and too long in the leg.

So, I know what to look for and expect if I decide to order anything from them.

The boutique also had a number of really nice lightweight sweaters in different brands but even the small sizes were huge on me.

On the plus side, I'm glad to become acquainted with this boutique and will stop in from time to time. I did buy a really cute cross body bag that is a shimmery olive color (made of recycled plastic) - brand is Smateria, and a pair of brass earrings in a new-to-me brand Ink & Alloy. (see finds)

Great finds! Too bad on the pants, I felt the same way about them, too much detail on the lower half for my comfort zone. They would look fab on a straight hip body type or a V shape.

Lana, totally agree on the pants - not flattering on my short pear-shaped body. I've been wearing skinnies for a few years and am tired of them although they are still all over the retail world in my neck of the woods.
