Ask MaryK, Lynne or anyone else: can blonds wear mustard yellow?

After MaryK pointed out the merino cardis in the NAS selection, I got to wondering.

I love the mustard ('raisin') yellow cardi, but can someone with my fair, rosy coloring pull off that color on top? My coloring is similar to Mary's and Lynne's, so I thought I'd shout out to them with this question.

What do you think?

Good question! I've avoided all yellows for a long time, but I am crazy mad in love with my light yellow blazer, so who knows what else is possible?

I think one of us is going to have to try on that cardi and report back!

You certainly looking so lovely lately in yellows that are *not* mustardy.

Maybe I'll just have to buy the mustard, blue, and plum cardis and do some posting! But I'll probably have to get XS and S to try, too, so my NAS order is starting to really add up! And that doesn't even include the multiple sizes of the Halogen pencil skirt, plus shoes.

Ah well - it's the story of my life - order a lot and return most.

But seriously, I really think it depends on the individual's coloring. I generally dislike blanket statements like "no redheads can wear pink" or "blondes can wear mustard yellow" or "all brunettes look good in navy blue" because I think it is too general. It really comes down to skin tone more than anything else, so I think the best way to know is to try. Personally, I think both Michelle Williams and Diane Kruger looked fantastic in those mustard yellow dresses (I don't know if either is actually a natural blonde).

Thanks, Steph. They are gorgeous! I think I really meant "Can fair-skinned blonds with pinkish complexions wear mustard yellow?", but I couldn't fit that in the header! In fact, I guess I really meant "Can I wear mustard yellow?" ; )

Sarah, I'm sorry if my post came across as less-than-nice--that wasn't my intention! I think I just feel like a lot of people are led to believe they can't wear certain colors for reasons that are less than legit. But I do understand what you were asking. I really like any excuse to link to Michelle Williams in that Oscar dress, because it was one of my all-time favorites. I thought it was stunning on her. As for a fair, pink-skinned blonde, there is always Reese Witherspoon in this yellow dress: http://www.fabsugar.com/Golden.....oon-107977 It's not quite mustard, however.

I definitely think you should try the mustard.

My hair is naturally dark blonde and my coloring is warm, and mustard yellow is a good color for me (if I do say so myself!)

Sarah, most people with cool undertones don't like how they look in mustard yellow. There are different shades of pink, so it's hard to say if you're asking about a warm pink or a cool pink. You could post a picture to get feedback!

Or you could look at these to get a better idea of if your skin it warm or cool:

You'll notice that there are blonds in all four groups, but they are different shades of blond with different skin tones.

Oh, Steph, not at all! I was happy to gaze upon Michelle Williams! Reese Witherspoon looks great, too, altho I think that yellow is a bit less mustardy than the cardi.

I think I'm hopeless with this skin color stuff! I'm starting to resign myself to just buying all the possible colors and posting : )

I think it all depends- is your hair a cool blond or more gold? If your skin is very pink, it may not work. Mustard is a strong and very warm yellow.

Ash blonds with pale pink toned skin can wear lemon yellow really well IMO.

I love mustard yellow, but I"m more mustard yellow coloured. HAHA. So uh... I've seen light blondes do well with mustard yellow!
