I think the new letter you have chosen is very crisp and fresh. But I wonder if you have ever considered changing the head of the page in favour of the content. I understand that the 'blanks' on my screenshot are used for adverts (I switched of ABP for a minute), but still the header takes up a lot of space on my laptop screen. It looks like 50%.
It is difficult to explain without a visual so I made a screenshot and then played around a little (moved the top of the content and the Ask Angie button up and the "bacstage etc." links next to the log in feature).

Nice idea! It is like the above the fold concept in journalism where people decide whether to purchase a paper or not based on the portion they can view above the centerfold of a newspaper.

And it is fashion-related too. I think shortening the header nicely lengthens the line of YLF. She looks like she lost 10 lbs.

Hi Heleen, we agree that the content is most important (after all, we created it! ), but right now we support YLF through advertising. Without revenue from advertising, we couldn't afford to create and maintain YLF. The ad at the top of the site (advertisers call it the "leaderboard") is an important unit for many advertising campaigns.

Also, I can see that things look rather odd when the ads are blocked, but the site is currently designed for the case where the ads *are* displayed. It isn't designed to deal with the case where people install ad blockers.

That said, we do understand that some people would prefer to see the site without ads and we are working on a monthly subscription option that would give members the option to have an ad-free YLF.

BTW, thanks for creating the visual, but I'm still a bit confused about what you mean by the red text on the left. Do you mean that the ad would go to the left of the page?

I understand you need the income, that's why I suggested a place where you could move the add. Something like in these pictures, but a bit sleeker of course. I suppose the adds aren't always almost the same.
