ask everyone: thank you gift for admin

i'm giving thank you gifts for three admins who i don't work with face to face. i'm not familiar with their styles. one is in her 30s, other 2 in their late 40s-early 50s. i thought a small coach wallet

would be nice, but then i thought i should just give visa gift cards for the same value.

if you were on the receiving end, what would you prefer?

I am a senior financial administrator and I would vote the purse, although you do not know the people involved this type of gift has a universal appeal and feels more special that a gift card IMO.

The best present I have received was a small Estee Lauder make-up bag which contained mascara and eyeliner.

I like the wallets but I am not as excited about the keychain. I guess it's just a personal preference though.... The gift seems much more thoughtful than a gift card.

As an admin, I lean toward the gift cards. Although the purse and key chain are *very* cute and more personal, admins just tend to be on the lower end of the totem pole and may not get to shop that often. The GC might give them the extra boost to get something they have had their eyes on, or somethng they really need.

Since you've never met them, I'm not sure you can assume they would enjoy or ever use a coin purse and/or key chain. I'm so particular about mine, I wouldn't use these.....

So I voted gift card.....with an appreciative personal note.

ETA: Must add that this is so thoughtful of you....not only getting the gift for your Admins that you have not met, but also the thought you are putting into choosing something that they will enjoy!

Gift cards, since you don't know them. If you are thinking of something in that range ($50-75) I would consider this VERY generous and be so touched that someone did this.

This is a kind gesture bj, I wish there were more well-mannered people like you out there.

(Another thing to consider -- if they don't know Coach -- although who doesn't -- but if they don't know Coach price points or appreciate the brand, the gift card may be perceived as grander.)

Sorry, I voted gift card, too. It's just too difficult when you don't know them well enough to shop for a personal gift, and it may come across as you having made an assumption about who they are. You could include a little note inviting them to spend the money on "something indulgent".

I vote Coach Coin purse as I agree with RoseandJoan it is universal and shows more thought than a giftcard. Not loving the keychain, maybe put smaller amount giftcard in the coinpurse instead of the keychain.?

My dear Grandma sent us wallet sets every Christmas and the real gift was the cash inside, but it was still sweet of her to shop for a set each year (they were NOT Coach).

i went with the wallet and a smaller gift card. if they don't want the wallet, someone in their lives will love the hand me down.

eta..i have met them all, but not so frequently that i remember their styles. i've seen them only in their work clothes for a relatively conservative organization. i wanted to get them something thatbthey may not buy for themselves.

I like the idea of something solid to give as gifts. I think it shows you spent some time, rather than gift cards. However, when I buy for something like this, I always buy at a store that will give me a gift receipt and I make sure to tuck it into the gift where it will be easy to find. That makes it so easy for the recipient to get it moved to a gift card or to exchange it for something they might really love.

I think these were really nice gifts, and in this situation it's really the thought that counts, and to me it makes sense to do a pretty gift and packaging in this case. If they don't want to use these someone in their lives will.

Ah, I think wallet and smaller gift card was a great compromise! Something special/personal and also something practical/universal. Yay to Jeanne for that idea!
