Well, I was going to make this an "Ask Angie" post. We all know her great eye for proportions. However, I know she's nursing a sore paw, and I really want to be like the mouse in the Mouse and the Lion story, and encourage her healing. So....

I tried these booties (see find) on in black in the store. They are incredibly comfortable --- well balanced, with a nice heel, cushioning, support, and a fashionable narrow toe with a deep toe box. And leather for under $100, Woohoo!

Still, in the black, they were a bit "meh." I ordered them in brown, because the richer color seems to suit the styling. I'm a little unsure, because I'm not seeing many "shooties" out there. I would have preferred a refined taller shaft bootie, but have not found any that are comfortable in my budget. These will be my go to booties for my bootcut jeans. I will also pair these with my new burgundy straight legs, and I think the brown will be rich with several of my purple toppers.

Does the shootie styling look like I dragged my shoes out of a 90's closet?

Does your eye see "western" first, or more a "retro" look? I don't have a western bone in my style body. I look like the Queen Mum when I try to wear flannel!

I don't see western. I have somewhat of a poison eye for western (living in the southwest, western is a lifestyle not fashion), and these don't skew western at all to my eye.

I understand your hesitation with a western vibe because I totally agree...but these don't read western to be at all. I'm glad you went for the brown; I agree that brown makes it a more interesting style. And it will be great with jeans.

Angie, I'm glad you managed that in one sentence at least! I'm relleved to hear you're seeing what I'm seeing. Finding a tapered toe with a heel that actually feels good is fairly rare. I realize that I spent too many years in shoes that were just a little uncomfortable. Life it too short, and my feet deserve better. From now on, I'm being pickier with everything but the glamorous party shoes, and even those will be 3 inches or less!

Not western. Retro, and great with flares or bootcuts and maybe with dresses. I think the brown will be rich and will bookend your hair beautifully.

I hope they're not out of style because I like this style. I don't see western, but I do see retro. They would look great with flares and straight legs, and dresses or skirts too.

Yay! They're on their way to me. BTW --- I ordered from dsw.com, because the promotion was listed as online. However, I found out that my store's manager will match those online discounts in store. I would rather have ordered from the store (I was there returning the black anyway) and given them the sale. I wonder if Gap and BR would do that, too?

I find the shootie style very versatile, and often fits better around top of foot/low ankle when flower-pot is a problem with short ankle boots so can transition to tights and skirts (in the right colors, of course and especially basic black) . I like them because I have some slight bootcut and trouser-style pants that I want to wear even in mild "non-boot" weather, as they're in all-season fabrics, and I want the longer legline of being hemmed for the 1.5-2" heel I can handle in bootie or shootie but not pumps or pointy things.

I think for wearing as you suggest, they will be perfect. I definitely see retro here and not western. I would never have thought 'western' looking at these, the heel definitely isn't western Nice choice and great colour.

Exactly, Unfrumped! Although, with my calves, I've never had a flowerpot problem!
