We missed you Angie! While you were away I tried some yellow coats. This is the last one I tried and have on hold. Yes or no?

It is 2011 sale stock so I can't size down (and possibly could be snug around the hips if I did).

I can't stop looking at your boots, which are SO terrific! I'm not Angie, but the sleeves seem much too long. Can you have them altered do you think? Otherwise, I really like the coat.

Thanks Sarah! The sleeves are indeed too long - unfortunately this is an issue I have with most coats, even sizing down! I've been thinking what would be the least risky thing to do with the sleeves. As I like the look when they're pushed up a little by my hands being in my pockets, I thought of adding snaps to tighten the opening of the sleeves and keep them on my wrists. Not sure if this would give me a good look or not.

Thanks for the lovely remark about the boots! The are Frye Veronicas, which I bought about 4 years ago - before I found YLF and the Veronica love here! I rarely get compliments on them which annoys me - so, thankyou! ^_^

How could anyone fail to compliment those boots? I am scratching my head in utter confusion here.

Well, I love the coat, but you already know that.

I don't think it is such a big deal to shorten the sleeve. Even if she has to move the tab, it is a fairly easy job. Just open the seam there, take it off and place it where it belongs on your arm. But if you are doing yourself (and are not an excellent seamstress) that might be an issue.

Hmm. Just coming back to say, on closer examination of 7-9 I DO see the shoulder issue. So...how does it feel in this area? Are you layering there, or not?

Hi Suz, not layering there. I did try putting my jacket on underneath but I didn't like the look, and I don't wear coats with jackets underneath anyway (I try to keep my layers fine, like a thin cardigan over a snug jersey top over a fitted tank, for example). This coat is very warm - wool/cashmere/something, and typical COLD day here is 12 degrees Celsius, so I wouldn't wear a lot under this.

I am absolutely clueless about the shoulder issue! Whether it matters or not!

It doesn't help that the coat was marked down from higher than I thought (it's $375, was $699, local designer - my own suburb, made in Australia, lovely people, so many non-style related reasons to feel it was meant for me & I should buy this coat it is making it hard for me to think straight!)

The coat fits well in length and width! Love the style and colour. Sizing down would not be a good idea, which is too your point. It's the sleeves that give me pause. They are a little wide and very long. How open are you to having them altered?

I don't mind having them altered at all, and am willing to spend good money on it. (I was thinking a good men's suit tailor might be the answer). I just have no clue of what is possible, will work, and how it would affect the silhouette in the end?

the color is lovely! and so fantastic that it is a locally designed/made item. in my town there are t shirts a lot of the business have that say "local is the new black" which i think is so cool. great boots too! i hope finding a tailor isnt too hard...

"Local is the new black" is awesome, Sarah! Even though I love clothes from all over the world, it feels good to support local designers/makers - it's hard for them, and I don't want to lose them! And there's a feeling of closeness, shared understanding, with them, a chance to build a little feeling of geographic "culture" when so much is globalised. Sounds like you have an active community, what part of the world are you in? I'm in Northcote, which is a small suburb with quite a bit of character, the legacy of Italian and Greek immigrants from the 50s and 60s, some Aboriginal people, as well as students sharing houses, more recently, international students, and musos/artists/crunchy people, as well as plenty of mainstream suburbanites and a few bogans! We have trams and quite lot of people ride bikes (not me though). A lot of people seem to have dogs! It's a diehard left-voting area. A very comfortable place for me, in many ways - including sartorially, I can wear what I want without feeling I stand out too much. (Wow, I certainly went off on a tangent!)

Wow, I am glad the coat issue has been resolved this way. I did not offer my opinion but I do love the coat and am glad Angie thinks it is a good fit (pending alterations). Very interesting tangent about your local community too. It sounds great!

Thanks Shevia! I was thinking about it in light of (Victoria's?) thread about whether we dress differently to other women in our area. And I realised it's part of why I choose to live here; because I don't want to deal with standing out all the time, yet I want to dress in my own way! Seriously, it's a big part of what makes a place liveable for me, I just never thought it through like that ^_^

Just chiming in to say I like this one much more than the toggle coat. And a plus that it's from a local designer. It's pretty and very flattering on you. Good luck on the tailor's quote, you're searched high and low to find that coat!

Thanks Suz, and Claire for the confidence boost! Claire, despite this being overall bigger on me, the lines are easier to look at than the toggle coat I think! Suz, I know you love your local designers as I remember that amazing skirt - adds a whole dimension of love to the item, doesn't it? ^_^

I'm glad this one will work out. In the future, you might consider checking petite sized coats so the sleeves will be closer to the correct length.

I am on the cusp height wise, too (5' 4") but for me, dresses, shirts and jackets in petites is the way to go - and WEIRDLY, I can buy coats in the regular section. Maybe because I do layer them (as a rule, due to our winters).

Trousers, I need to get regular and hem. Petites are too short in the rise and just generally don't fit as well.
