Hey everyone,

So I've big wide fussy flat feet. They are a size 11w in American sizing. My feet are getting that uncomfortable swelling spread. I fear that I may have to move into a size 12.

I was wondering of someone could recommend a good supportive brand. I've got to make it through a Chicago winters. So far it has be lovely in the Chi but, I know the snow is coming and I need probably a boot as well as a shoe.

Oh, yes, and you will want a boot that works in snow and that is stable.

Hmmm.

Sveta also has large feet that are somewhat wide. I think for boots she has found some success with Blondo. I would check them out for sure. They're waterproof and warm. Might be pricey but under the circumstances, I think very much worth it for you. Your feet will be taking on a lot of work!!

Thank you Suz. I want to try and order from a place if on line with a good return policy. I hate trying 9n.shoes from the Internet.

I will.see if some of the local . stores carry the line.

Have you tried Munro Shoes? They carry up to size 14 and up to a WW width. I wear a size 12 and love their shoes... especially for comfort and support.

first of all-I am SO jealous that you live in Chicago! Just got back from there and I have to say it is one of the prettiest and friendliest cities I have ever been to. Still can't get over that a river actually runs right through the city!

Ledonna, I order most of my shoes from Zappos. I love that I can place an order before 1pm one day and receive the order the very next day. Then, if they don't work, it is so easy for me to print off the return form and drop the box off at the UPS store -- free shipping and free returns. Also, many of the shoes have very helpful customer reviews as to how they fit -- so I read those to see if it's worth a shot to try any particular shoe I'm interested in. And, you can search "comfort" styles . . .

I've also ordered a good bit from 6pm (which is Zappos sale sight, I believe). Great deals on this site. But, it's not free returns. And, it usually takes 2-3 days to arrive.

Maybe you've tried Zappos or 6pm before, but if not, this might help you to search a large select of styles and sizes to narrow in on a good shoe/boot to get you through this new chapter of your life.

My feet also got swollen when I was pregnant and I had to go one size larger in shoes. They were tough to find. I remember that for boots I had to get a very large pair of Sorels. I don't know how I was able to hold my feet in them because they were so big, but I did. My main concern was having shoes and boots with a good grip as I didn't want to risk a fall. Same concerns as you have. Leave a little extra room for your feet as they may get more swollen as the pregnancy progresses.
I hope you will soon find something good and from a store that supports their customers' needs. I know that as long as shoes/boots are fairly new, even if you wore them outside, Nordstrom's and probably the Rack as well will stand behind the product if there are any issues with it. For Winter shoes, I love my Timberlands and sometimes I can find them in wide width.
I will let you know if I can come up with more specific suggestions.

Not a shoe recommendation, but you may find that your feet stay changed in size even after the baby. My shoe was a 7 narrow before kids. After I wore (and still wear) an 8 medium. Just sayin'

You might want to consider trying on a man's boot/shoe in a size down and a regular width. I've often done that in an athletic shoe, hiking boot, and snow boot. My size 10.5 foot is often happier with the increased toe room, especially if I am using a supportive insert. My Blundstones are the men's version, but look identical to the women's.

Another tip: pick a style which is super easy to get on and off. Bending over to tie, zip, or buckle gets harder and harder as time goes on. I remember longing to see my toes again...

I agree with Jaime...people in Chicago were so friendly. I raved about it so much when I visited with my husband that he asked me if I wanted to move. I also loved how stylish everyone was. There's not that much style in Denver, but the weather, people and skiing is amazing.

Good luck with the boots!! I don't have wide feet but as I'm getting a little older I definitely have some shoe challenges I didn't have when I was 23 (um, a long time ago.) I think it takes time and patience.

Dana Chicago can be love and we are still the mid west though it is a major city. Denver is beautiful. I was able to visit once many many years ago when I was in the service. Oh How I fondly remember 23 33, now almost 43. lol

Gaylen that is a good idea. Specifically the slip on my sister informed me that I would not be able to tie or bend down to much.

Angie &EL Cee I will try the Murno shoes top priority. I feel as if my feet are spreading and swelling. Oh fun times.

Joy Thank you. My hope is that they will not stay that way. I would hate to loose my collection of shoes. I have built them up over the past few years. But, if necessary I will. Thanks for that info.

Joyce B thank you for that information and yes I'm looking for something safe. Have you heard of Yak Traks? It is a gripper that you place on your boot to grip the ice.

Destri I have ordered from Zappos before so I will look at them for shoes/Boots.

I wear size 12 and also live in Chicagoland. I order most of my shoes/boots online - Zappos and Nordstrom only. Both offer free shipping and returns and you can search by size. For boots I like the Ugg brand - not the typical slipper boot you often see, but they have some good sturdy winter boots which look good and are very functional.

Thanks, Ledonna, I will check out the Yak Tracks. They must sell them at Lands End or LLBean, right? Those should work nicely for you. The only thing I was thinking is that as your belly grows it may be a pain in the neck to deal with the shoe sole attachment. Keep in mind that you'll get to the point where you won't see your feet anymore until the little one comes

They sell Yak Tracks at our local EMS, (if you have one) and at most specialty running stores like Fleet Feet.
