Ask Angie: What's worth picking up at July sales?

Hi Angie and all, my MIL has generously given my daughter and I a small pot of money for a shopping day for our July birthdays. Although most of it is sure to be spent at Justice and the Disney Store, I am hoping to pick up a deal or two for myself as well.

July shopping is notoriously slim-pickings, at least where I am ... an suggestions as to what's worth hunting for? Thanks

Shopping in late July is not so fab and August is even worse. (I don't buy a thing in August). At this late stage, unless you have a long Summer ahead of you, I'd save your money for Sept - or spend it at the NAS in July. Or buy basics you really need but do not like to spend money on.

Torontogirl, I've picked up olive and navy crops, and believe it or not - 2 cropped sweaters in olive and string! Also, a navy bomber with eyelet sleeves. All were around 60% off in store - marked down in store, with additional discounts at the cash register.

Once again this year, NAS has saved me from buying a thing anywhere else. My coffers are empty. I'm beginning to think NAS is perfectly timed so that I don't rush out and buy summer items on deep sale! I hate to say it, but as soon as we turn the calendar to August, we're going to start seeing leaves turning around here. Happens every year.

TG, I used this time to pick up a great pair of white jeans (on sale with xtra % off). since I now wear white jeans year round, it seemed like a great investment.

Great finds Runcarla - Gap is on my list for sure! kkards, great idea on the white jeans as I need a replacement pair. viva, I am glad you have had luck at NAS! For some reason, it doesn't appeal to me personally to shop it, but that is perhaps because I'm never been in a Nordstrom, so I just don't have a good picture of what I would want to look for ... I know that is virtually sacrilege to say on this forum, as so many of you do so well at it!!

I just came back from Yorkdale empty-handed. I did come back richer though, as I returned some things to Anthropologie. I guess because of NAS, I'm ready to shop for fall, not summer, though I'm no where near ready to DRESS for fall!

I have warm weather through October so July is my time to pick up things like sandals on deep discount. It really depends on where you live. Another thought -- do you ever take a tropical vacation in the winter? Then you can buy warm-weather clothing and keep them new and fresh until your vacation. I did this last year and it was a smart strategy as the resort collections weren't really out yet in mid-January when I took my vacation.

I bought some very classic styles of shoes in July. I wanted some classic things on hand so that I am prepared for any occasion. The shoes weren't on sale, but I did get a discount because I opened up a charge card at Macy's (most came from Macy's).

I also got a pair of gold flats from Sam Edelman's website. He has some sale merchandise that isn't too picked over. I don't know if the shipping is free to Canada (it is free in the US).

I also bought a fun romper from Anthro. Anthro, although it's doing a semiannual clearance, gets new stuff in all the time. (What I bought was a new arrival, not a sale item.)

I'm always surfing around for sales. Browns online has had some decent sandals & boots, just a thought. I almost bought some booties online last week that I'd looked at last year (and was going to pay full price) - they were WAY discounted - I suppose they were last year's model. Had I not landed at NAS in person this week, I would have purchased the ones from Browns.

And Happy Birthday wishes to you - have we missed it, or is it coming up :)??
