Ask Angie: What is wrong with this copycat outfit & white on white?

Hi Angie & everyone. I tried to copy a combo of these looks.

I don't like how mine turned out. Is it the shirt wrong material (linen), wrong style or size or do you love it & it is just that I am not comfortable in oversized clothing?

The first pics are my copycat with the white shirt & olive skinnies. Also is the white jacket too short? Are cropped jackets not going to work with the new trends except for with dresses? I hope not because I went from owning none to 4 recently. I am so slow I'm too late it seems.

The other outfits are my white on white attempts & they look wrong too, especially with the cropped jacket & tucked shirt. Untucked not as bad but even with no jacket something feels off.

I like my black & white outfits the best, maybe for colour or fit. Not sure. The first 2 olive & white & white on white outfits might look ok but when I see these they look so much better to me.

I know there is grinning in one pic but that is not what I'm talking about & would wear a long cami.

Also are my new platforms dated? Should they be worn with something else? I tried them on because my legs felt short with the outfit.

Please be brutally honest about everything as I am trying to look my best these days & also to figure out why it doesn't look good on me even though I like similar looks I see on Pinterest.

Oh & I don't like my new shorter hair as seen in the white on white & olive & white pics. Suggestions welcome. I think it needs layers perhaps or just grow back into boho long hair.

I'm not Angie, but I hope you don't mind if I add my two cents. I think the key is that in the Pintrest photos, the models are not wearing jackets, and I think your first photos would look better w/o the jacket (like in photo 3). I like #3, did you try it with the semi tuck like in the Pintrest photos? You could also try a denim jacket in a different color than white, as it would provide more contrast.

I like the other white on white combos, and I really like the shoes in #13. For #14-#17, I would like to see one element that isn't white - perhaps the jacket or shoes in a different color.

#18 - #22 are all fab!

Yes I like 18-22 too Karie, which is more how I usually dress & I added these for contrast. Otherwise people might say I look good in the other outfits without these as a comparison. My attempts at copying the olive & white outfits & doing white on white didn't please me as much but I see it look good on Pinterest. I agree the white jacket doesn't look good, maybe because cropped but I also think there is something wrong with my white shirt, even on it's own. Maybe a longer white jacket to do the white on white thing & a different white shirt or maybe white on white doesn't suit everyone? I don't love 3 myself. Maybe just my eye isn't used to the oversized look. I just added my olive & white with semi tuck I forgot to add earlier. I don't love it but I like it more than untucked.

I think the shirt you are wearing looks good, but the shirt in the Pintrest photo is even more oversized than yours. I think your shirt is loose fitting, but not as oversized as the Pintrest ones.
I think the untucked one looks good, maybe add a fun/funky belt.

Those sandals are killer! Your outfits are great, but as to why they don't look like the inspiration photos: bagginess. Your skinnies may be a size up, but they are still skinnies. Also, it's not clear to me that your white jacket was meant to be cropped. It looks to me like it has a bit of a peplum meant to hit at the waist. I'd wear it with shirts untucked, because when they're tucked the jacket does look short.

Rachylou one of the Pinterest photos has skinnies tighter than mine but her shirt seems draper. A different fabric maybe? The one with baggy pants has a stiffer shirt but bigger. Hmmm maybe I need a bigger softer shirt if I am to wear it with the skinnies. The jacket is meant to be cropped but doesn't look good with tucked shirt but I'm not sure it even looks good with untucked. The black blazer looks better & maybe I could try a white blazer in that length.

Yeah, I agree the white jacket seemed too cropped for the jeans you used, but better when untucked shirts are used. I would suggest a stiffer and larger white shirt to get the look from pinterest. THose shirt tails really hang down past their bottoms

True Jayne & I like the one with skinnies & semi tucked shirt but shirt is softer fabric than mine I think.

rachy called it...the pinterest photo pants are baggier. not that your outfits are bad...in fact there are so covetable. but they aren't the same silhouette as the inspiration photos.

btw, the all white with the zebra belt and strap wedges are much too fab.

I vote never mind Pinterest. Those outfits were inspiration and served their purpose. YOUR outfits are absolutely sensational! ALL of them. You made the looks *your own*, and that's the key to style.

I don't find the white jacket too cropped. It works with your proportions and the low contrast blouse.

The sandals are not dated yet, but that look is on it's way out. Don't buy anymore!

Elle, you look KILLER. My faves are: #1, 4, 7, 10, 16, 17, 18, 20 and 21.

I went back and took a look, Elle. I think the difference there is that her skinnies are more like jodhpurs / leggings.

To me you have a rocker thing going on, skinny jeans, jean jacket compared to the pins... and you wear it well!

Well thanks everyone for your input. I tried going outside of my comfort zone with the olive & white & white on white & definitely felt uncomfortable. It's good to try though. I already had the pieces. My happiness factor is higher with the black & white outfits but all of your compliments, including the Angie stamp of approval, help me to see it may just be me being slow to like new things. By the time they are on their way out I will come round to it lol. Maybe that is why shopping regularly as per Angie's blog is a good thing. I will get used to trends before they date.

Elle, there is nothing here that doesn't work to my eye. Could it be a matter of your eye adjusting to a look that is not your norm? I think you carry off the white on white really well.
