Ask Angie: What is wrong with the outfit

I loved the Friday ensemble look and gave it a go.

Outfit 1 - maroon pants, light blue top and a denim topper - hated the look when I saw the pictures (pants went into the give away pile - they are a smidge to short)

Outfit 2 - Changed pants, same light blue top added an old old old EF topper. Liked it at home, then hated at work and when I relooked at the pictures
I think the EF topper is dated and old and I should give away.
What is wrong with these outfits - I know they don't work but trying to figure out what it is.

Ignore the shoes - I was going for super comfort and had to wear flats for what I had planned for the day. My feet hate flats and these are the only ones I have in this sort of metallic color that my feet will tolerate for the day.

The colors are hard to see especially in #1 but I like #2 - the color combination looks great. Maybe a slightly shorter top under the sweater (if the jeans are high waisted enough to handle it? Or a slightly longer blue sweater? Hmm, I will watch and see what everyone says along with you Frannie.

I don't see anything wrong with either picture. Details are hard to make out--and I'd prefer you were facing the camera so I could see where the top falls better, but both of these are rather nice looks for you. Flats are great--how do you feel about rolling the hem of your trousers? I love your hair, frannieb!

I know the pictures don't tell the full story but I thought #2 looked really good on you. The proportions are not significantly different to the first outfit but it seemed to work a bit better. Having said that, I do think both worked quite well. I think it may have been the sweater.

I like the blue sweater but it seems like more of a cropped length, so I wonder if it would look better over a longer top, say mid or low hip length?

I agree that the pants in #1 are too short. How long is the pair in #2?

I don't think the cropped cardi is dated. But it will look better with dresses and skirts. More proportional.

From what I can see in #2, the proportions look good.

Thank you everyone - I do like the cardie and I will move it to something I wear with dresses and skirts. I think it was the cardi throwing me off. Will retry the sweater with something else. Maybe it was all too flowy for my liking with the top and the sweater. If everyone thinks the proportions look right.

The pants in 1 are too short they were always kinda fringe pants and now they are gone. The pants in 2 are the correct length - This is something I am neurotic about is pant length.

I like #2. Colors, proportions. While the topper is not cutting edge, it doesn't look dated to me either.
