Ask Angie: what did you wear on your SA vacation?

I'm posting this from Sedgefield, a sea side village in the Southern Cape. We've been here a week and the clothes I packed have held up well for the trip. Cut offs and cropped jeans and joggers are great bottoms and simple tank tops are ideal for tops. A hoodie and a cardi, stuck in my bag for breezy evenings. My go to shoes have been my Birk-alikes and thong sandals.

I brought along a couple of sarongs and beach cover ups but I often find the cover ups are too glam for a simple sea side vac and I imagine they would be better suited to a resort type holiday. Today's beach outfit was a pair of shorts, a tankini top and a soft hooded jersey knit for when the wind came up.

I'm finding less is more in terms of hair- just a small blob of gel to scrunch my wet hair... maybe a quick blast upside down under the hair drier. More than that seems over done. And no makeup except a bit of BB cream for its sun protection.

I love the relaxed vibe of coastal towns - how anything goes in terms of style.

Tonight I went on an impromptu date with my DH and I just grabbed my black maxi dress and a soft grey and white hooded jersey and the Birk-alike sandals and off we went. Nothing like a date night in Joburg.

So Angie... this got me thinking about your recent seaside holiday in the south coast of KZN - and how that went with your polish and innate fabulousness... what did you wear? How did you style yourself.

And to everyone else... Please share your vacation wardrove thoughts.

We have good memories of Sedgefield and Knysna, Hil. The quality of the light and the sunshine in South Africa is unique. Do kiss it hello from me. The Cape - especially Cape Town - is my favourite part of SA. Your outfits sound just right, and I'm glad you're enjoying your holiday.

For our 2.5 week visit in hot and humid KZN, I wore the same casual Summer outfits that I do back home in Seattle, Hil. White or blue rolled boyfriend jeans with a roomy crisp shirt or breezy cotton knitwear, belt and white loafers. I also wore checked skinnies with cotton knitwear and silver oxfords. (It always cools down at night by the coast). I brought a light moto jacket for cooler days, and wore the same black and white graphic tote the entire time. No heels at all. For the most part it was 24 - 28 degrees and humid.

It was not hot enough for my dresses or denim shorts unfortunately. I only wear those when its 30 degrees plus. I do not wear sandals.

My hair and make-up - "polish" as you put it - were just the same. No changes there - although my punk-esque spike curled in the humidity, so I had to adjust the style a little while I was there. I wrote about that here, actually:

I realized I put mo}_'work wardrobe and may not have the right functional casual wear. I notice this more for travel when I need to pack a " capsule. "

Sounds like a terrific vacation, Hil! And your wardrobe sounds perfectly suited to your laid back days. Super-casual is so hard for me -- I'm much more of a smart casual girl! On hot days, I still try to keep a little pattern in the top, or some fun color to keep things interesting.

Angie, I love how you edit your look for maximum style and comfort --- "I don't wear sandals," for example. Deciding what's not for you can be so freeing in the long run!

I hear you Beth Ann - I'm not a very smart dresser but I find super casual a little difficult to master.

Unfrumped - I find I often need to shop for a vacation wardrobe - especially for shorts or casual tanks. Having said that though, looking back on my clothes packed for the last week, I reckon I could have scaled back by half.

Interesting to hear what you both are wearing! We are heading to South Africa in February for three weeks to visit family in Cape Town, do the Garden Route, take DS on a game drive and spend some time at the beach, go to a wedding and vineyard. Lots to pack in just a carry on, not to mention the long flights and cold stay over in London! The last couple of trips I over packed so this time I'm determined to have an efficient travel capsule. Hil, you've reminded me how little I need at the beach! I just can't wait to get there

It will be HOT in CT in Feb. Very, very hot. But delightful. Have fun, Crackers. CT has the best beaches in the world. Get yourself to Clifton 3rd and 4th beach.
