Ask Angie: Vegan-friendly shoes?

Hi Angie!

Do you have any advice for finding great vegan shoes? I'm looking for nice shoes that I can dress up or down and that are comfy but stylish. I'm willing to pay a bit extra, but I can't shell out hundreds of dollars, either.

I have found some vegan-friendly shoes, but they seem to fall into three categories:
* Super cheap shoes that are often cute but very uncomfortable and probably made in sweat shops. They fall apart easily and the heels are frequently poorly balanced (a pet peeve of mine).
* "Hippie" shoes that sound great on paper (eco-friendly, comfortable, sweat-shop free and even reasonably priced) but are usually bulky and hard to dress up. (And if they are dress shoes they only come in plain black.)
* Really expensive designer vegan shoes that I can't afford so I don't even know if they're comfortable.

Not Angie, but found this site with some great shoes in a variety of prices. I love many Olsen Haus shoes but they are pricey!

I think Maya is very impressed with her Blowfish vegan shoe collection. I'm sure she will bring you up to speed as I'm sure she's very familiar to your quandary!

Oh, I missed this thread. Yes, I like Blowfish a lot. They are the first vegan brand that has ever worked consistently for my feet. Most vegan shoes are too stiff or give me terrible blisters, but their shoes are surprisingly soft and comfortable. I would caution you if you have a narrow foot though. Most of their styles seem to run wide.

Rocket Dog also makes cute vegan shoes, but they sometimes use leather and I don't find them as comfortable.

If you shop at Moo Shoes, try the Novacas brand. They don't have the most interesting styles or colors but they make nice shoes.

Hello!

My husband wears vegan shoes, and we purchase them through the website veganwares. They are a little more expensive than some, but I can vouch for the quality!

It is an Aussie website and prices are in Aussie dollars however they ship to the US. The thing I really like about them is that you trace around your foot and they custom make the shoes to fit! Given my husband has really large and wide feet, this solves a lot of the "fit" issues he has had in the past....
